Corrupt download files

Postby emkpro » Mon Dec 26, 2005 4:27 pm

Hi,
I ama having this problem since I have my new computer.
it has a MSI K8N Neo 4 Nforce 4 ultra chipset mb.
I can't be sure if it is the network connection is faulty or the ethernet itself, but just about all the files that I download are becoming corrupted. I am living in a student dormitory I connect to internet using the local network. When I talk to network superwiors in my dorm they replied they experienced nothing like this before. I accually have two NICs but since they use NIC id, I can't try the other one to see if it works
Thanks in advance

If you installed the Network Access Manager and its corrosponding program from the UDP, uninstall it. Removing these two should get you going.

If you're running the 6.66 version of the driver the download corruption might be fixed by changing the ActiveArmor default from "offloadable" to "notoffloadble".

That said the Network Management suite, which includes the firewall, is the cause of a multitude of problems spanning the sum total of all releases and nVIDIA has yet to release a version that causes no problems.

So for the vast majority of users the only real choice is uninstalling the software.

In short no, there's no other workaround.

Me, I've had problems with corrupt downloads, random disconnects and an inability to use p2p programs due to NAM. It also seems to really hate dualcore processors and threw random BSODs with my X2 3800+ until I uninstalled it.

You'll find that many users here can paint a similar picture.

Welcome to NFHQ! :)

There's a workaround, enjoy the 13-pages thread over at the official nvidia forums:
NAM bugs - others please confirm.

Might not be an nvidia problem though...people claim it worked on pre-sp1 xp installations. Maybe the problem is something in windows :P

Who knows but its an idea.
Abit IN9 32x Max
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
2x (Sli) BFG 8800GT OC
4gb (4x1gb) Corsair XMS2 PC6400 (4-4-4-12) @2T
2x Westren Digital SATA 160gb
OCZ GameXStream 600w
Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit

Im starting to think nvidia just tosses darts at a board and whatever "problem" they hit thats what they try to work on. But then someone comes in and says "OH GUYS I HAVE THIS GREAT IDEA FOR A NEW OPTION IN THE DRIVERS!!!" then they forget all about the problems and try to add something new. -- Me

read a bit and found it could be connected with SP2's Windows Firewall (which is crap IMHO) even if it's not on. Just the mere presense of it would cause the Nvidia firewall and access manager to go bonkers with file downloads.

May wanna go and take the entire NAM out + it's firewall and try something else in it's place. If that helps, at least you know it's Nvidia's shoddy UDP's at it again.

Dont get me started on it's GART driver...

I took the nfirewall and the whatever network driver out and now I can download properly.
Thats the good news the bad news is my comp is performing poorly on 3d apps such as games. I is a bit interesting though I had absolutely no problems with Q4 and GTA SA worked just fine also tried FEAR a bit but HL2 FarCry Blood rayne and others had a lot of lockdowns and ati cont centre restarted the driver I first thought it was my vboard but reading the posts in nvidia forum I see nvidia has other problems such as file corruption I wonder now if that may be involved with my MB too I dunno but maybe it too of them triing to turn my life into total mayhem.
hhh I was expecting so much from this machine :(

okay okay, rewind a bit. What exactly did you unninstall?

Secondly, I suppose your ethernet driver's still in, since you're still online, right?

this is odd, NAM and the shoddy firewall shouldnt have any factor in playing games. Are you trying to play these games online per chance (only the ones that are online-capable)?

Might I suggest a full unninstall of anything Nvidia on your rig (use Driver Cleaner), reinstall Nforce drivers (counting out Nvidia's IDE, Network Access Manager+Firewall) and your videocard drivers (if they are Nvidia) and see if that helps.
