DOS Network Drivers for Norton Ghost

Postby Pennhaven » Tue Feb 11, 2003 9:31 pm

Anyone have any success using Norton Ghost for TCP-IP peer to peer drive imaging with the network adapters on an nForce 2 board?

I have an Asus A7N8X and have been unable to get the 3COM packet driver that comes on the Asus driver disk to work. Has anyone figured out how to do this yet?

Or are there any DOS network drivers available for the nVidia onboard network adapter?

I'd hate to have to install a NIC on this board when there are already two adapters on board. :?

I tried copying the files onto their as they had the NDIS drivers but I haven't had the chance to try ghosting yet. Ghost did make the floppy OK though... The night I was going to ghost my PSU died on me...

Thanks. Please let me know how you make out. I've been using packet drivers instead of NDIS, but if you can get them to work I'll give that a try.

I tried the NDIS drivers for my system but it hangs at initializing the device...

Those were released back in May 2002 and I've been told they can be 'hit or miss' by nVidia. I was also told they generally don't release those to anyone but system builders or OEMs... That's why you haven't found them for download from nVidia.com...

I've been away for awhile but I do appreciate the feedback even though you weren't successful. The quest for A7N8X ethernet ghostability continues...

Hi,

I have exactly the same problem.

My ABIT NF7-S v2 motherboard has an integrated Realtek 8201BL "physical layer interface".

I need to image my partitions to another computer, connected by cross over cable, using Ghost with peer to peer TCP/IP Boot Disk.

But I cannot find the necessary NDIS2 file for the Boot Disk Wizard in Ghost.

I did try to see if I could use the Ethernet folder in the NForce driver package, but they did not work.

Next, I went into the Realtek web site, but they said " RTL8201x is a PHY only chip which does not need any driver", and that it is the MAC chip embedded in the chipset which needs the drivers.

Please help me if you can.

Hey, if you can get those drivers to work on your system, then let us know how.

Yes, I have them too.

I propose to run the Ghost utilities, Boot Disk Wizard, peer to peer TCP driver version, go into the 'add an NDIS2 driver' dialogue, browse to where I have unzipped these files, and try to get the wizard to copy the relevant files to the Boot Disk, then run it.

I do not know whether this will work or not, but, you too please try using your own initiative, so that we can exchange notes later.

One thing - trying to create a Boot Disk and running it to see whether it loads the correct files can do no harm.m If the files do not work on your computer. the worst that can happen is that Ghost will not run from the inappropriate floppy.

I did not use the Ghost wizard as I was making another kind of boot disk and the system would totally freeze when initializing the driver for the NIC.
