Norton Ghost DOS drivers for nForce3 MB? (SK8N)

Postby VoodooPC » Mon Nov 17, 2003 6:10 pm

Has anyone managed to get the Nvidia DOS drivers for a nForce3 Motherboard? I have the Nvidia NDIS DOS drivers, but they do not work on the SK8N. Upon reading the included readme for those DOS drivers, it appears the Nvidia MCP is loading correctly, but the NDIS.DOS is too old and fails to load the PXE Media Sensor or some other (according the Nvidia readme, the NDIS.DOS loads the onboard PXE and works with that and NVNET.DOS to simulate a real driver, negating the need for a single, self-contained driver), but it seems that NDIS.DOS is failing because if I boot off with PXE, it works. The error I get is PXE: 61 Media Sense Failed or something similar. The cable is plugged in and works under normal PXE.

Does anyone have a solution, or perhaps a updated NDIS.DOS driver? I have not been able to find it on the Intel site (it's a intel driver). Intel's site points you to download the Intel Boot Agent and says that it has the NDIS.DOS driver (UNDI NDIS) but none of the installs or archives has this file.

The build I have is 082 but I know there is a 083 out there from Intel's version log change file (which I haven't found once I found it the first time). I'm hoping that 083 will fix the problems I'm facing (unless someone else has a solution).

So, to summarize:

The Nvidia driver that loads the Nvidia MAC works. The NDIS.DOS high-level driver that does the media-sensing and whatnot does not work.

Any help?

I've had problems as well with my Shuttle systems. I'll see if I can't find an updated NDIS.DOS for both of us.

Please post if you find it first, as I want it too.

I'll exorcise my PC first. Time to make the smell of brimstone eminate from my PC!

This doesn't answer your question, but my solution for cloning the hard drive in my SK8N has been to use this: http://www.sysresccd.org/ (in particular the partimage utility). The CD, based on gentoo linux, has smb and nforce ethernet support built-in.

If you are comfortable with linux, you should have no problem figuring out how to use the utilities on the bootable cd (<3 linux fdisk). NTFS support with partimage is experimental but I've had nothing but success cloning and restoring Win2k / XP partitions on ide and scsi drives.

Plus, it's free!

It's a good idea, but my company has paid for Ghost Enterprise Edition and we make recovery CD's using that software. I'm not sure how comfortable our tech's would be to have to switch (even if it's to a free solution).
