Re: optimized nForce chipset driverpacks for Vista (32/64bit)

Postby SBeaver » Thu Jan 24, 2008 10:05 pm

Hi again Fernando.
I tried these on my nf4 ultra (boots on sata raid 0) and it gave me a STOP bluescreen at boot with no way to recover (no way that I'm aware of).
Before I reinstall vista x64, is there any way to roll back the driver?
I can't get into safe and mode because of an unsigned driver I have, last known config doesn't work either (same reason I think).

What exactly have you done (manually driver update or running the installer) and which nForce IDE driver version did you try to update?

I think I had the one nvidia has on their website.
I had forgot all the steps to do since last time so I just used the installer.
If I get trouble on my newly reinstalled vista I'll report here.

If you are going to reinstall Vista x64, I recommend to load the nForce IDE drivers v.9.98 from scratch. After having Vista up you can run the installer of the "updated" nForce chipset driver package 9.46 without any problem, because you have already the included IDE drivers installed.

controller delay problem

Postby Diezelpower » Fri Jan 25, 2008 12:14 am

Hi all!

Ive tried the 9.98 drivers for winxp x64, and they seem to work great.
Only problem is that i got the controller delay problem when rebooting, ive got the nvidia 680i chipset running raid 0 2x maxtor 250gb (Abit in9 x32 Max motherboard).
Is this bad for the harddrives or doesent it matter?
i dualboot with Win vista ultimate x64 and vista dont have that problem with the 9.98 drivers.

Now I can report it works well on windows server 2008 rc2.
Kernel streaming plays audio with hickups while accessing the harddrive but this might be due to some other drivers I have. Not a big issue anyway since I don't need to use kernel streaming.

This is good news - thanks for your post.
Further questions of interest:
1. Which nForce chipset driver package v.9.46 did you use (the official or my "updated" one, the english or the multilingual version)?
2. Did you do a fresh install of XP x64 or did you just update the nForce drivers by running the installer?

I don't think, that this will be a problem for your hardware.

Thanks for this information, which certifies, that my "updated" nForce chipset driver package v.9.46 works with your nForce4 Ultra chipset too.
Did you install the 32bit or 64bit version of Windows Server 2008?

I got bluescreens after a few reboots so now I'll have to reinstall again.
I'm not going to install your driver again this time.
To clarify, I have a MSI NEO4-FI (nf4 ultra) with mediashield 5.60 bios, running windows server 2008 RC2 x64.
I'm considering removing my raid array now since it's mostly trouble anyway.

Did you do any overclocking?
I ask this, because I know, that especially the 64bit versions of Vista and Server 2008 are very sensitive to any overclocking activities on RAID systems. They need rock stable standard settings.

No overclocking at all no. This time the bluescreen was irql_less_or_equal instead of just stop but it's the same meaningless crap you always get so I can't say which driver was really at fault, but it looks like it's nforce drivers.
It gets to the green bars while loading windows and then just crashes into bluescreen.
I don't know if safemode would have solved it since I can't get into safemode with the unsigned driver, and I can't remove that driver.
This is really annoying
