Hello, I have a brand new OPTY 165 and I have some "problems" overclocking this micro. With stock vCore (1,35) and Multy (9x) I reach 295MHz -FSB (stable 2xprime 24h), but whith 300MHz prime don't pass (1,4vCore) and 310MHz windows NO BOOT.

With multy 6x I reach 320MHz FSB and I think this is the MoBo maximum.

My question is, Why can't I up FSB with stock multy?

Not 3GHz... just only 9x295= 2665GHz jaja.

But this micro could do more, some reviews reach 2,8GHz and 3GHz.

Before you get too carried away with reviews, check your stepping. Only certain steppings are going to be able to hit the 2.7-3.0 range. FYI, the only way to get your stepping is to pop your HSF off and read the information printed directly on your CPU's IHS. Here is a good list of steppings, and what they are ussually capable of:
Quote:

Models:

* 165 (1.8 GHz)
* 170 (2.0 GHz)
* 175 (2.2 GHz)
* 180 (2.4 GHz)

[edit]
Stepping Info

* CCBWE are less likely to be coldbugged.
* CCBBE and CCB1E are very likely to be coldbugged.

* Averaging >=2800
* CCB1E 0550VPMW
* CCB1E 0605XPMW
* CCB1E 0608MPMW
* CCB1E 0609FPMW/FPAW
* CCBBE 0610DPMW (most consistent for 3GHz +)
* CCBBE 0615DPMW/EPMW
* CCBBE 0617FPMW
* CCBWE 0602BPMW

* Averaging 2600-2800
* CCB1E 0606FPMW
* CCB1E 0609FPBW
* CCBWE 0530TPMW
* CCBWE 0546XPMW/MPMW
* CCBWE 0550UPMW/VPMW

* Averaging <=2600
* CCBWE 0534SPMW
* CCBWE 0541RPMW
* CCBWE 0543TPMW
* CCBWE 0551UMPW/VPMW
* CCBWE 0604TPMW
* CCBWE 0607UPBW
* CCBWE 0609FPAW

As a reffrence. My Opty 170 is a CCBBE 0615DMPW, and these chips are supposed to be monster overclockers. People are getting 2.7-3.0 pretty consistanly (I just ordered the rest of my stuff, so I'll be able to see what she's capable of later next week! Mr. Green )

Then you have to think about cooling. I would imagine the reviewers are probably running a top quality HSF, if not watercooled. Are you running the stock HSF? What are you temps?

Thanx. I'm gonna look for STEPPING next time I remove HS.

I'm using a Zalman 9500 AM2 with 29ºC IDLE, 43ºC FULL (24h prime) 20ºC (room temp).

Just note that it reach 2,66GHz at stock vCore, and I think that the CPU isn't the problem. May be it's the MoBo who can't support high FSB speeds.

It always befuddles me in that with the intent to OC a chip, all the time it's in ones hands before installation, hardly anyone looks at nor records the stepping. Shocked

Before ya run on about it being the boards seemingly lack of any FSB, get serious and put some vCore into that chip. For all the 3GHz expectation and talk here I only see 1.4vCore being used.

Don't expect a miracle 3GHz when your praying on one knee with both eyes open. Rolling Eyes

Same problems with 1,5vCore (Max MoBo allows), don't pass prime with (300*9).

Any IDEA?

YEA.

But first pull the HS and post the stepping.

To blindly blame the board here without knowing if you have a bad stepping is ludicrous.

Yeah, wardog is right. Your gonna have to pop your HS off and check the stepping before you blame the board. If you have a crappy stepping, you have nothing to blame but the CPU. Generally speaking the Premium is a great board! It's treated me VERY well!
