I just wouldn't mind a Kepler card that is around the same performance as my 560Ti, but with lower power consumption/noise. So a vanilla GTX 660 sounds like it would be perfect if it has the full GK106 core.

Like I said even a GT 640 with GDDR5 would be appealing, as I could probably get away with a bit of a drop in performance (for the games I tend to play anyway).

For the ones that don't want to look at the graphs, here is the important quote:

Ryan Smith@Anandtech wrote:This entire generation has seen a smaller than normal performance increase at the standard price points, and the GTX 660 Ti doesn’t change this. If you’re frugal and on Fermi, you’re probably going to want to wait for whatever comes next. On the other hand performance is finally reaching a point where it’s getting very hard to hold on to GTX 200 series cards, especially as the lack of memory on those sub-1GB products becomes more and more prominent. The GTX 660 Ti can clobber any GTX 200, and it can do so with far less power and noise.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/6159/the- ... -review/21

If the 660Ti followed the previous price/performance ratios, it's price should have been $200.

It is amazing that only now, 4 years after the launch of the GTX200 cards, they are thoroughly outclassed. It seems that gone are the days of worthy annual $200 upgrades...

Two years now and I have no desire to replace my 6870, on that note. Sure there are faster cards now but we're only just starting to see games use the power I've already got.

Even my 460, which isn't even shown in comparisons anymore, is still adequate for gaming, even more after I upgraded to a 3570 and a Z77. The chipset upgrade was the one that had the largest impact, curiously...

There must have been a series of improvements that helped, the old chipset, the H61, just wasn't able to handle a SSD properly. IIRC the access to the processor is faster, wider and more direct now. And the new cooler is way quieter than the Zalman (less and lower frequency sound), and probably does a better job.

Nvidia announces GTX 660 :-

Still GK104 based which is a shame, was hoping that this would be a GK106 part, but it's looking likely that it's been canned... :-k
