I'm still using DFI NF2 with Socket A (Athlon 2700+, not even barton core). At least I still love my SS audio. Smile

Really need more processing power as I usually play with video files and re-encoding both video and audio to different codecs, making home DVD's. Also do some FPS gaming on weekends.

Was hoping to keep my AGP vid card and DDR memory but looks like I'll need to upgrade those to PCIe and DDR2. May also need a new sound card with optical SPDIF as a requirement.

Any suggestions on my upcoming upgrade using my income tax return¿

OK. . .

lemme try be a little more specific now, hoping for recommendations.

Have a budget of approx $800 CDN for:
- Intel MB with DDR2 and SLI (suppose it must be nV chipset if I want SLI)
- Core 2 Duo or Quad CPU
- One nV vid card capable of SLI (will buy 2nd in upcoming months)
- DDR2 RAM
- Optical SP/DIF out for audio

would Intel CPU come with stock cooler? Also thinking of getting a UPS with at least 1,000VA and 400W battery, how long would it be able to run off the battery with the above configuration?

Thanks in advance!

Yep, as long as it's a boxed Retail version and not OEM. The stock cooler isn't that bad actually, it can be a PITA to install sometimes, but once it's on it's totally fine. I still use a stock cooler for running a Q6600 @ 3Ghz.

- Antec Truepower Trio 650W PS

Something "real-life-like".

I don't really like the idea of re-encoding the same file twice, but to compare the two different CPU's I'd be willing to.

Smile

Hope to have some benches of current (old) system up by middle of next week.

Will also run FRAPS on my gaming to see average frame rates.
