Help! I decided to replace my existing ide hard disk with a 150Gb WD SATA drive. All sounds fine, mobo should support SATA but for some reeason I plug it in, power up and it can't see the drive.
Bios = nothing in there to enable it ?
Ctrl-F = There is no prompt for this, I have tried CTRL-F at all parts of the boot in case it was not being displayed.
F6 = Windows XP install, pressing F6, installing drivers from floppy, still no device found for install.
Am I being stupid here or am I missing the point ? I have never installed a SATA drive before but thought it was similar to the SCSI drives with on board controller.
My Bios is 7.8 I believe.
Any help would be appreciated as i know this board is pretty old now and most have upgraded but I didn't want to take the leap just yet.

I will try and get hold of a new SATA lead.
I have jumpered the drive to read only 150 access speed, and just realised the drive is a 250Gb drive which could be the issue as MSI's web site says it will only recognise 80Gb ?
I am right in saying that when I boot I should see the Promise bios from the drive giving me the ctrl-f option ? |

Sorry to be a bit thick but where would that be ? I had a search around and couldn't find Promise anything (apart from me going bald through stress
If its a simple enable button then that would be it as I have not made any other changes to the mobo bios. |

Yeah, I checked the manual out and it had nothing also checked online to see if the PDF was any different (it wasn't).
Looks like a return for a refund then.
No jumpers on the motherboard either I noticed to enable / disable the ports. |
