Some info about how to make a mod to BIOS:
I used to have a prog, named "s2kctl", a new version of which has a feature to export config to BIOS PATCHER( http://www.rom.by )
so I did (tuning divisors before and a lot of testing too). Also you can use
WPCREDIT to check if bus disconnect is enabled and WPCRSET to set the config in startup (though it DOESN'T work if your
comp gets back from stand by or hibernate state, you must set register again), (BTW, s2kctl has a fix for that). Use a software way to enable "bus disconnect" if you don’t'like/afraid to flash BIOS by mods.
I did it before I got sick of them and I just didn't want to be bothered by installing these progs every time I install Windows, which eat my memory too. This is it. |

I don´t notice any temp difference compared to Gigabytes orignal bios.... And I use WinXP....
But it´s time to reinstall XP... it´s getting weird and unstable...
I´ll see if that will make a difference...

Saint_lench,
thanks for sending me the bios. running at it for several hours now w/o any probs. temperature drop is about 10 C. it jumps instantly up when I run any cpu-intensive app.
Q: can you "unlock" the bios to show real temp instead of gigabyte's +10C?
thanks in advance |

When I use Speed Fan and activate STOP Grant Disconnect my temp drops 5C. But no change when I use HALT detect.
Is it HALT detect that is activated in your bios?
Is there a way to activate STOP Grant ? |

"HALT" is for Intel based processors only, chipsets for AMD act different
way, they
disconnect “bus” from CPU, achieving the same effect. “STOP Grant
Disconnect” = "bus disconnect" (is just another name for it), is already activated in my bios mods. Send
me your config, we’ll try to work it out (your report is only 1 who had no
effect using this mod). |
