I've found another AMI BIOS editor called "mmtool" that should do the trick (it's actually the AMI equivalent of awdbedit). Here's the link to a guide and you can download it from there: http://www.rebelshavenforum.com/sis-bin ... 000023;p=0

I've Googled more AMIBCP's. I've tried v2.99 and 7.00 but getting the same errors or unrecognized BIOS type. I'll keep looking, but if you find anything, please let me know!

OK, I've loaded the k8ne1012.rom file into the mmtool.
I see there is a Replace tab.
The module to replace will be 5403.bin right?
Having a bit of trouble working out what module to replace...
I know from the amibcp313 tool that the SiI module in at 0x022B but how do I tell mmtool that? and is that the correct info?
I didn't realise it was nearly 2pm so I'm going to get some food then take a look at the website about the mmtool. Hopefully that will answer the above questions! If you know better, please let me know! You've done a superb job so far! :D

Well I've had a look at The New Rebels site and it talks about Hex editor or IDA Disassemblers.
I extracted the PCI Option to a .rom file. I tried to then load that into mmtool but it didn't like it (Error loading ROM image (100000h)).

I downloaded IDAFree, but to be honest I'm out of my depth here. :? I naively thought that these SATA drives would be plug n play... Guess I should have done some research before buying them!

I'm getting to the point where I have to admit defeat. Guess I'll have to hot-plug the drives once the OS has loaded. This means I won't have RAID 5 as intended and will have to span the partition. Will Vista do RAID 1 (mirror)? Or I buy an add-on PCI card. 2 port are cheap enough but to do RAID 5 its £100s. 8-O

If you have the time and relish a complex problem, let me know if you figure it out!

Many thanks for your time so far....

It really shouldn't be that difficult using the mmtool (even easier than using cbrom). Here's what to do:

1) Create an emtpy folder on your desktop (eg. BIOS)
2) Download mmtool 3.19 and 3114 RAID5 BIOS v5403 from my site and extract both to the empty folder
3) Download the Asus BIOS 1012, extract it, and rename it to something simple like "1012.rom" and stick it into the same folder
4) Execute mmtool, load 1012.rom, and click on the "replace tab"
5) Highlight the last PCI Option ROM in the window pane...there should be three of them, you want the last one (the "RunLoc" column for that entry should say "1095:3114")
6) Click "browse" and point to 5403.bin and hit "replace"
7) Save the modified BIOS as 1012m.rom and it should be ready to flash (you might want to rename the modified BIOS back to whatever Asus named it as before flashing)

That should work. Let me know.

AdvModDev, you are great! :D
I missed the PCI Option RunLoc column! It is so obvious now you've explained it!
I've got my modified bios now. I'll get home from work around 5pm and flash it. Fingers crossed...

Thank you so much, AdvModDev! :D :D :D :D
The BIOS mod worked a treat so I now have 4 SATA drives I can configure into a RAID5 set!
Thanks again!

Good news indeed. Thanks for posting your experience as I'm sure there are other people out there that have to deal w/ an AMI BIOS (as opposed to Award). And many thanks for your donation. Cheers from across the pond :D

DFI NFII Ultra - problem with 1TB HDD solved, thanks

Postby richie_sk » Sun Feb 01, 2009 1:07 am

Thank you very much AdvModDev for your guide how to exchange SATA Sil BIOS in Award BIOS. I've successfully applied it to the my DFI NFII Ultra MB ;-) and so could start to use my new 1TB Samsung HDD in my PC.

What more, I was in situation that I was already running SATA RAID0 as my system disk (older story - 1.0.0.8 drivers must be used - otherwise blue screen occurs). What I found out - 1.0.0.8 drivers can run with 5403 Sil3114 BIOS and must be used again, because when I used 1.15.10 or 1.15.15 drivers, then my XP Pro SP2 did not boot - I hope it will be useful for somebody.

Good luck ;-)
