Delta ILSR loses SATA at start up

Hi, well its a while since I posted here so forgive me that Im still using a Delta ILSR, which has gave great service since I bought it I might add..

Recently a problem ot two have surfaced and was wondering if the wise ones here could help me..

What it is simply, when my PC starts up it goes thru the post sequence ok, finds my IDE devices ok but the next screen, which is the Promise fasttrack screen it has a 50 - 50 chance of booting into this, if it does find it, it loads ok. If it does not find this it skips this screen altogether and goes to the next screen and fails with boot device not found. My bootable device is on this controller

Things I have tried.

Reloaded fast track drivers

Reflashed with a 7.8 bios, fresh from MSI

Changed cables and checked for loose connections.

Repaired Windows (although I dont think its anything to do with this).

Im begining to think its hardware failure, either the promise controller or hardrive, can any one help on this?

Secondly a smaller problem sometimes occours where the PC wont shut down, it ends up with a blue sceen and frozen mouse, again Im lost with this but realize it could be a software thing, totally unrealated to the above question, but again can anyone shed some light on this?

Finally if I put a cheap raid PCI card in will it clash with the installed raid controller?

I ghosted my SATA boot drive to my IDE just to keep my PC working then bought a cheap PCI VIA raid card, and made my SATA drives JBODs. Not what I wanted but works fine now. Looks like it was hardware failure of the Promise controller.
