I can install the DFI driver or anyone of the other drivers. It shows the correctly installed driver each time but still doesn't do gigabit. Hmmmmmm.....wonder if DFI sneaked in a fast ethernet chip instead!
I did a system restore back to pre-switch days, cleared CMOS again, etc... and it shows up at the Marvell 88E001/etc... but same problem not giving Giga as an option. Tried installing drivers again and still no go. I'm super stumped. The onboard NIC on my LanParty NFII died out of the box. Now 1 dead Nforce NIC and a goofy Marvell Nic. My dual giga board is a single no giga board. |

Yes it does, now.
Take a peek into the file "yk51x86.inf" that in "yk51x86_v86123.zip"
There isn't a 1000 speed defined. Search out "10 M H D", "10 M F D", "100 M H D", or "100 M F D" and you'll see for yourself.
SO .......
What model of procurve?
Is Jumbo Packet enable on one or both? Turn both to off and try.
Look at the physical connection points, the ProCurve(port setup etc etc), cables(length, condition, min of CAT5, routing, etc etc).
Also sadly consider the switch/NIC(or both) may not be able to negotiate anytyhing over 100

| very interesting. So if the speed is not defined in the driver how does it ever get to gigabit? The switch works fine with all of my other computers and their standalone gigabit NICs (one intel one dlink) and manage jumbo frames. The switch also handled the nforce giga nic on this board until that nic gave up the ghost. In a direct link to the switch with several cables it doesn't show anything different. I guess what you are saying is that if the driver is left to autonegotiate it will autoneg up to giga if the other side can handle, and maybe this switch and this NIC just aren't meant for each other? The procurve is the 1800-8g. No difference with Jumbo frames on or off. Oh well, just have to by a standalone nic. Thanks for the help!! |

oooooookkkkkkk. I received a shipment of new cables this morning. I had already run through all the cables in the house in various combinations trying to make sure I didn't have a cable problem. So as a "why not" last attempt, I dropped in a .79 cent Cables 4 Sure cable and...........everything is working. &%$#$%##L|!!!!!!!!!
Can't get jumbo frames support on the nforce NIC, but beggars can't be choosers. Thanks again! |

hehehe. Been there, done that I have.
Default is Giga FD till it finds it can't communicate reliably at that and lowers itself.
Glad to hear it's solved.

rodger, I'm betting because your R70 was using a crossover to the switch that the others had to be x-over also. You probably could have switched the 1 x-over for a straight-thru and had no problems either
It's not a good idea to mix x-over and straight-thru cables in a network. |

I did some more investigating....
I went halves with a mate in a 300 meter roll of cat 5 cable about 4 years ago. It turns out that all the straight through cables made from that roll will only work at 100, but, if i turn them into cross over cables it works at 1gbps.
I can have a combination of cross over and straight and it will work, so long as the straight through is not from the old cable. So now into the switch i have an R60 and 2 onboard giga lan machines running @ 1000m and an adsl modem an xbox and a wireless router @ 100.
I had wrongly concluded that it had to be a cross over going to the switch, so thanks for your post, now im aware of a prob with my cable.
Seems like a different solution to the same problem.
Regards
Rodger. |
