I don't mean this to get into a vs. war. I have been an AMD guy for years. I have never owned an Intel machine. I recently tried to build an Intel system with a 2 Wolfdale chip and 2 DFI boards. It was a failure. I could never get the system to boot period. I have been running an M2N SLI Deluxe board paired with a 64-bit cpu. It has been fine, but like any junky I wanted more power and speed. I have a brand new unopened Phenom Black Edition chip (9600) and I am starting to think that I should have stayed with AMD. Is there a mobo out there that will utilize the power of a quad core chip or is my 9600 Phenom Black Edition chip one of those B3 stepping duds? I would appreciate any help or suggestions you folks may have. I plan on returning both Intel chips and both boards as my friend and I have been completely unable to get them to boot.

I have decided to keep my Phenom chip. I ordered 4gb's of OCZ Platinum DDR2 1066 and the Gigabyte GA-MA770-DS3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 board. I am curious as to whether or not the Phenom is a good chip.

Thing is performance wise pretty much all the standard line of chips whether Intel or AMD will do just fine.

They are all fast enough for the job. If its gaming you want then you just have to think a bit more about what GPU you want and that is nowadays purely down to what size screen you have.

High performance ram used to be useful but now its only going to give you maybe 1fps extra for those tighter timings. Not much when the game runs at 97fps anyway.

Its all much of a muchness now.
