I posted this part of my question in another thread, but since it's really DFI specific I figured to post it here as well. I searched the forum and it seems no one has posed this question before.
Since you can mod the non-SLI version of the UT nF4 Ultra-D into an SLI board (the SLI bridge can be ordered separately) - Has anyone here done this and has experience doing that or any other input?
Read full article Here. I guess the article ought to pretty much answer all questions but I thought I'd ask here if anyone has actually done this.

Yes, I did it with a conductive pen and it works fine. POST says it's a SLI board.

What revision is yours? I found out in another thread that only the first boards could be modded this way - what revision is that, does it say on the label somewhere?

Not sure where on the board it says... All CPU-Z says is 1.0 for board and A3 for chipset. I got it at the end of May.

DFI is not doing anything to stop the modding of their boards other than not allowing sale of SLi bridges to customers with a serial number of a DFI Ultra D motherboard.
NVidia has stated, however, that they with be applying a layer of epoxy over the contacts of the chipset making it impossible to connect the resistor leads without shaving the epoxy off the chipset. I have not seen any reports of the epoxy-covered NF4 Ultra chipsets being found yet. So, as far as I know, NVidia has not yet made the so-called epoxy-covered version of NF4 Ultra to be shipped to DFI. Since it is only 1 manufacturer making a board possible to be modded into an SLi board, I doubt NVidia would change their manufacturing process for 1 manufacter of 1 or 2 models of motherboard (very small percentage of total chipset sales). You should be safe ordering a DFI Ultra D board with high confidense it can be modded.
I have the mod in place and it works great! All the latest NVidia drivers detect the SLi configuration on the board and all the latest BIOS from DFI allow SLi operation as well. If you really want to be safe, the price difference between the Ultra D and the SLi version is so small now that the mod may not make much sense anymore, but if you are the ultimate penny-pincher (like me), pick up an Ultra board. |

Besides having SLI enabled, the mod offers no other performance increase correct?

To all,
I recently purchased one of these boards and yesterday found out that a simple alteration could convert it to the SLI version. However purchasing mine very recently, 19-8-05 its a newer revision, ABO. On removing the chipset fan, I started to weep as nvidia has now started to place epoxy on their chipsets making it harder to alter them. This is just to let you guys know.
Thanks
