HELP! i built three of these machines (hardware list below) and they ALL do the same thing: when you hibernate it acts like it is working fine, preparing to hibernate, then hibernating screens then the machine shuts down for a second or two, then it reboots! EVEN WEIRDER, when it comes up the SHIFT key is locked! not capslock, but the SHIFT key!
this occurs until you shut down.
ANYONE who can VERIFY this issue so i can argue with asus would help me a lot.
IF YOU COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO MY ISSUE, theres a FREE Athlon 1700+ AXDA1700DLT3C JUIHB0310xpmw CPU in it for you once i verify the fix!
i've been through near everything i can think of and MUST get it fixed!
let me know if you need any further information, i'm sure a fix here will help a lot of folks eh??
THANKS AND GOOD LUCK!

im using one of these boards but with a 4200 Processor.
Im wondering if the issue could be to do with the power settings in the bios as i always disable mine as windows has a problem where it doesnt always come out of sleep mode and ive been caught a few times and lost a lot of work.
Try upgrading the bios to the latest version. |

Ideas:
Was ACPI Enabled in the BIOS when you installed Windows?
Does it act the same w/o the Multi Card Reader attached? (Pesky SOB's that these things can be)
In Power Options do you have a tab refrencing APM?
Any "Wake on XXX" settings on any of the MB/installed/attached devices?
If a screen saver is being used try disabling it and test.
What are the BIOS options "set' that pertain to power mgt?
Are these 3 machines, and any others, all networked together?
AND MY FINAL EDIT: How are you enacting Hibernate mode?

i've been through nearly every iteration of the power settings in the BIOS. you made me think of one thing though, that ACPI is enabled PERMANENTLY and GRAYED out so i cannot change it. that did bother me...is it an issue?
using S1, S3 or S1/S3 combo settings did not help, one that did give me 3 successful hibernation/resume cycles in a row was to DISABLE Q-FAN. i thought it actually solved it until it happened on the phone with an asus tech (he sent the issue to engineering who have yet to get back to me)
there is a mult-card reader in all the machines, conveniently a different brand in two of them so i will try that...thanks!
all of the "wake-on" setting s are OFF.
the three machines are all in different locations. i am entering hibernate normally through start shutdown, hibernate, etc...also tried setting to automatic and no diff.
i was also not using a screen saver at the time, and really i dont think its a windows issue because the hibernation actually COMPLETES and the machine shuts down for a second, then boots back up with the wacky keyboard.
another thing i was going to try is a different power supply as they are all zalman 460watt. the 5volt rail may be "stayin alive" a little too long.
ps-one mobo is BIOS0903 and the other two are BIOS0703
thank you all again SO MUCH! and GOOD LUCK! |

Um, probably. Did you discuss this with the ASUS Tech when you spoke?
It being permanently grayed out stikes me as a defect. |

Have anybody solved the problem?
I bought ASUS M2N motherboard and currently have exactly the same problem.
Right after I've installed Win XP SP2 everything was ok. The hibernation worked perfectly. But after a few days (this time I've kept installing new programs etc.) it began to reboot when entering hibernate mode.
I.e. Windows finishes hibernating and in second or two reboots. After reboot, Shift key is locked.
ACPI setting in BIOS is set to ACPI 2.0. Other options: ACPI 1.0, ACPI 3.0. When I set ACPI 3.0, Windows didn't want to install, it shows the BSOD with info something about ACPI is wrong. |

Seems I've found a way out.
It doesn't completely solves the problem, but it allows hibernation to work ok.
I've found that problem either appears or disappears depending on the way I hibernate my PC.
Generally I do it the following way: Start->Turnoff Computer->Hold Shift Key ("Stand By" changes to "Hibernate")->click "Hibernate". In this case I trap on a problem described above each time.
But after I created on the desktop the hibernate shortcut, which points:
%windir%\system32\rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState Hibernate
and hibernate the PC by doubleclicking it, hibernation works perfectly. |
