Hi,
I have this ancient mobo, it still fits my needs (can even run SATA harddrives in RAID) but recently i discovered problem when i tried add more memory to my system.
Technical overview: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=521&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=&cat3_no=
So I get a hold of two 512MB sticks and one 1GB.. 512MB ones are DDR 400MHz CL2.5, 1GB is 400MHz CL3.0
From manual:
| Quote: |
• Supports six memory banks using three 184-pin DDR DIMMs
• Support Dual channel PC3200/2700/2100/1600 DDR SDRAMs
• Supports both 64-bit and 128-bit DDR SDRAM
• Maximum memory size of 3GB
NOTE: nForce2 only NOT support x4 memory device. 1GB can be made by other density of DRAM chip such as x 8, x16.
How can I enable 128 bit dual channel DDR?
To support 128-bit dual channel DDR
install DDR modules on DIMM1 (purple slot) and DIMM3 (green slot),
or DIMM2 (purple slot) and DIMM3 (green slot). |
When I put 512MB memories to DIMM1, DIMM2 and 1GB to DIMM3 system will not start, all I see is black screen. I tried various combinations so Ive put 1GB to DIMM2 and system started but after a while became unstable, aplication starting to crash, closing itself, etc. I tried just 1GB/DIMM1 512MB/DIMM2 and left DIMM3 empty, still it was very unstable. When there is only 1GB stick in DIMM1 or 2x512MB in DIMM1,DIMM3 it works fine. Weird thing is everytime there is memory stick in DIMM1 and DIMM3 or DIMM2 and DIMM3 dual channel is activated, even when its different memory type and size in pair. I havent found any option in BIOS that disables dual channel, in case this causes my problems :/
Could anybody help me out way how to get all three memory sticks work together?

it like most nforce 2 was very ram fussy
and mixing of dimms was never very easy
try setting ram timmings manually
to the slower one ie the cas 3 |
