@ greybamps:
Thanks for your detailed report about your successful installation of Windows XP by using the WHQL certified nForce IDE drivers v10.1.0.20, which are part of NVIDIA's 16.08 package.
Some questions:- Regarding your steps 1-4: Why didn't you just unzip the downloaded package by using a tool like WinRar or 7-Zip?
- Which HardwareID's does your nForce S-ATA Controller have (right-click onto the Controller > "Properties" > "Details" > "Properties" > "HardwareID's")?
- Are you sure, that there is no nForce RAID Controller within your Device Manager?

@Fernando: I tried your 9.99.09 driverpack ("Fernandos XP 32bit NF4-6 Performance Pack v1.9b") but I didn't succeed:
- Installation provided the "NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller", i.e. all the devices looked as it has been with your 6.99 pack. While installation I was asked to install these unsigned drivers (four times IIRC). I checked, all devices showed 9.99.09 version.
- After installation my RAID was "half-detected" which means: The controller in the device manager showed correctly the connected drives but Windows-Explorer showed only one drive letter and asked to format it. (Usually there are more partitions than one. They aren't recognized.)
- I had a Standard Dual Channel IDE controller but that is for controlling my PATA drives. Forcing the nVidia driver here didn't help but yielded only a yellow exclamation mark at that device.
Now I'm back with 6.99. Perhaps you have another idea what could have went wrong? |

Hi Fernando... regarding your questions....
| Quote: |
* Regarding your steps 1-4: Why didn't you just unzip the downloaded package by using a tool like WinRar or 7-Zip?
* Which HardwareID's does your nForce S-ATA Controller have (right-click onto the Controller > "Properties" > "Details" > "Properties" > "HardwareID's")?
* Are you sure, that there is no nForce RAID Controller within your Device Manager? |
First, the downloaded drivers were in an 'exe' file and I never gave it a thought to use WinRAR... just seemed easier to click on the file and see how far I could go with it.
Regarding my hardware profiles:
Here they are;
SATA Controller Hardware ID's"
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F8&SUBSYS_01371025&REV_A2
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F8&SUBSYS_01371025
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F8&CC_010400
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07F8&CC_0104
As for the third question... this is what is listed...
NVIDIA nForce RAID Controller
Here is the Hardware Id info,
ACPI\NVRAID20
*NVRAID20
But I really don't know what this means, so I went with what I had.
Right now, I probably need to finish installing the Nvidia drivers before I can move on, because I still can't connect anything via the XP system on the new machine.
Looks like all the other hardware drivers are out of date... modem, ethernet and sound card, etc.
Thanks,
Greybamps. |

Your experience might have been caused by the fact, that your RAID array is outside the boot drive.
You might try to update the nForce IDE drivers manually within the Device Manager.
Don't reboot unless you have checked, that all NVIDIA related Storage and RAID Devices (nForce S-ATA Controllers, nForce RAID Controllers and the usually hidden nForce RAID Class Devices) have been successfully updated.

Right click onto the EXE file and choosing "Extract to ...." would have been easier.

Thanks for answering to my questions.
So at least here is my conclusion:- You don't have an nForce S-ATA AHCI system, because the nForce RAID Controllers of your mainboard obviously are enabled (per default or by BIOS setting).
- Since the Setup of any Windows Operating System will see your hdd Controllers not as nForce 630i S-ATA AHCI, but as S-ATA RAID Controllers, you didn't succeed with the XP installation by integrating just the nForce S-ATA driver. So you had to use the same driver integration method as all other users with an nForce SataRaid system (SATARAID as textmode and additionally SATA_IDE as PnP driver).
- The useful driver integration method doesn't depend on the question, if you have created a RAID array, but on the question, if the NVIDIA RAID Controller(s) are enabled or not.

Fernando-
I installed your SATA IDE driver and it appears to have solved 1 error:

@ brergo:
I don't think, that your recently detected error has something to do with your running nForce IDE drivers.
Do a google search for "error +during a paging operation" and you find a lot of reports.
Maybe one of your hdd's is dying - you should do a backup of your Harddisk0!
Here are some informations from Microsoft regarding the Event ID 51:

I have considered that but I have run multiple disk check utilities and the disk comes up ok. It is only about 6 mos old. I just ordered a new SATA cable, do you think that could be the problem? |

Yes, poor S-ATA cables and PSU's are very often the real reason for severe issues while working with the computer, but only a few users do think about them. |

| Hey, Fernando, I was wondering if your drivers will work with NDISWrapper, or do you know? I'm trying to use them in Linux and I'm not really sure how to go about it. |

If the official nForce Ethernet drivers do work with NDISWrapper, the ones of my packages will work as well.
You probably have to test it yourself. |
