There were nForce3 RAID users who succeeded with the Vista x64 installation onto their RAID according to my guide, but they didn't use the SP1 version of the OS.

Vista 32bit is taking a long time.
Still on the completing installation part. But the three dots keep moving.
Strange.
I hope this will work. I've been testing voor more than a week now.
Now I'm asking myself. Can I have your thoughts about this?
Do I really need Raid0?
If I decide to abandon Raid 0 I can go for 64bit Vista.
What do you propose? |
I propose to finish the installation of Vista x86. Then you probably will see the performance enhancement of a RAID0 system.
If you are fully satisfied with the performance (and stability) of your freshly installed Vista x86, I propose to stay with it.
I don't believe, that Vista x64 at a single hdd will be as fast as Vista x86 at a RAID0 array. |

I have the same opinion.
Vista x86 is now up and running.
So I can confirm the following for my kind of motherboard:
Vista x86 on nvraid works
Vista x64 on nvraid forget about it (buy an Intel based mobo).
In the meanwhile Vista x86 works just fine.
But I'm not going to cry victory just yet.
I'll be back in one week (or sooner if you're dying to talk to me) and let you know if it's still stable. |

@ all nForce4 RAID users:
As you maybe have seen within this thread, there are brandnew nForce IDE drivers v10.3.0.27 available for Vista x86. These drivers may be very interesting for all nForce4 RAID users, who are going to do a fresh installation of Vista x86, because- They are WHQL certified (big advantage to get them installed from scratch) and
- The associated INF files contain the HardwareID's of all currently known nForce chipsets from nForce4 up (that means, that they should work for all of them).
So there is a great chance even for nForce4 RAID users to get these brandnew nForce IDE drivers v10.3.0.27 installed from scratch.
Since we haven't yet seen any feedback of an nForce4 RAID user regarding the use of these 10.3.0.27 IDE drivers, I have added them to my guide (first post of this thread). This way I am hoping to get very soon knowledge about the compatibility and usability of these drivers.
Thanks in advance for your reports!
Fernando

Hello Fernando 1!
First I wanna say many thanks to You for posting this superb piece of guide over and over the past! Thank You!
Now my little question... I'm using an Asus M2N-E Sli for a long time now and never had a problem with these drivers offered by nVidia. I can even install the 10.3.0.21 Driver from the scratch and no problem at all.
Is it possible that these nForce 500 chipsets are a little bit different from the old nForce 4? Asking that b/c I read something about nForce 4 and M2N-E Sli are the same chipset???
Sorry for my bad english, I'm german, but I guess You're german too^^
(read some posts of You in another forum)
Best regards,
Willimann |

Hello Willimann,
welcome at nForcersHQ Forums!
Now to your question:
Yes, the nForce 500 chipsets are similar, but not identical with the "normal" nForce4 AMD chipsets (look here). The main difference is, that boards with an nForce 500 chipset do support AM2 CPU socket, whereas the nForce4 mainboards usually have a socket 939 CPU.
Since both nForce4 AMD and nForce 500 S-ATA Controllers belong to the same CK804 group (DEV_0054 for SATA1 and DEV_0055 for SATA2), they are supported by the same nForce drivers. Nevertheless they are different chips with a different behaviour regarding the installation of the drivers.
Regards
Fernando

@ all nForce4 AMD RAID users:
As you maybe have seen within this thread, there are brandnew nForce IDE drivers v10.3.0.39 available for Vista x86. These drivers may be very interesting for all nForce4 AMD RAID users, who are going to do a fresh installation of Vista x86, because- They are WHQL certified (big advantage to get them installed from scratch) and
- The associated INF files contain the HardwareID's of all currently known nForce chipsets from nForce4 up (except nForce4 Intel Edition).
So there is a great chance even for nForce4 RAID users to get these brandnew nForce IDE drivers v10.3.0.39 installed from scratch.

running vista sp1 32bit and get horrible raid0 performance when using more then 2 drives.
have tried just about every driver you can imagine.
the ones that came with vista (non-sp1)
the ones that came with vista sp1 (8.30/8.33)
tried the 9.67s
tried the 9.99s
tried the 1.03.something (they come in the nforce 19.06) package...
they ALL STINK!!!!
in xp i usually get about 180MBs AVG
in vista the best i have got so far are a little over 100MBs and that is with the 8.33s that come with vista sp1
btw has anyone checked in device manager and show hidden devices and then look under non-plug and play and then look for "NVIDIA nforce RAID Driver"
this driver does not change when you manually update the other drivers.
it ALWAYS stays with the driver off the vista cd even if you provide the updated drivers during INSTALL
has anyone got 4 drives in a raid0 to get over 150MBs yet? |

@ nunyerb:
It would be a good idea to add your nForce chipset and the name and manufacturer of your mainboard. |

My question is somehow off topic, but why have you created a RAID0 array with so many hdd's?
You certainly know about the risk to loose all datas if any of the disks dies. |
