PostPosted: Sun Jul 13, 2008 9:58 am    Post subject: nForce IDE drivers 10.3.50.8 WHQL/mod for Vista 32/64bit

Since nForcersHQ Forum member phaTrx7 yesterday already posted some nForce IDE driver links, I searched for more of them and especially for really new ones.
At least I found WHQL signed nForce IDE drivers v10.3.50.8 dated 03/12/2008 for both Vista 32/64bit versions at HP's driver support websites.

Here are the direct download links:
nForce SATARAID WHQL drivers v10.3.50.8 for Vista x86
nForce SATARAID WHQL drivers v10.3.50.8 for Vista x64

Both MCP78 packages contain the following components:
Code:
IDE SataRAID Driver (v10.3.50.8) WHQL
RAIDTOOL Application (v10.3.50.8)
Installer version 5.84

Attention: These driver packs don't have a SATA_IDE driver folder and will only be usable with MCP78 chipset mainboards.

@ all Vista users with a non-MCP78 chipset:

For courageous nForce users, who don't have an MCP78 chipset mainboard, but would like to try these new nForce IDE drivers v10.3.50.8, I have
a) created the originally missing SATA_IDE driver folder and
b) customized the INF files of both driver folders (to make them usable for all NF4-7 chipsets).

Here are the download links to my modded 32bit and 64bit nForce IDE driver packages:

modded nForce IDE drivers v10.3.50.8 for Vista x86
modded nForce IDE drivers v10.3.50.8 for Vista x64

This is the content of my packs:

Code:
IDE SataRAID Driver (v10.3.50.8) customized by Fernando
IDE SATA_IDE Driver (v10.3.50.8) created and customized by Fernando
RAIDTOOL Application (v10.3.50.8)
Installer version 5.84

You may try my modded drivers at own risk.

If you have done it, please report here about your experience with them.

Have fun!
Fernando

Due to the fact, that these new nForce IDE drivers might be interesting even for nForce users, which need the separate SATA_IDE drivers, I have just created the originally missing SATA_IDE drivers v10.3.50.8 and added them to the previously uploaded modded driverpacks.

You will find the download links to the completed nForce IDE drivers v10.3.50.8, which now should be compatible with all nForce chipsets from NF4 up, within the updated first post.

@ all usera with an NF4-7 chipset:

Is there anyone who tried these new drivers? If yes, please give us your feedback!

If there should be no interest in new/modded nForce IDE drivers, please let me know it.I am not interested in wasting my time for things, which are not needed.

Thanks for your quick reply, dajife. Very Happy
What do you mean with "worse" (less performance, less stability, any issues)?
What about the S.M.A.R.T. and NCQ support?
Did you use just the SATA_IDE driver folder I have created? Did you get the nForce S-ATA driver installed without any problem?

not any issues, only less performance, smart and ncq unsupported like v10.3.0.21 drivers.
I installed it with the integrated installer without any problem, using drivercleaner before install.
My performance with Everest Disk Benchmark is the same than 10.3.0.21 drivers. Thanks for your support.

All tested with 67.80 ethernet drivers.

Thanks for your additional remarks.
Although you will stick with the nForce IDE drivers v9.99.09 (better performance for your system), your report is good news:

  1. The driver pack I have created (HP's packs didn't contain any SATA_IDE driver folder), obviously works without any issue and is supporting nForc4 chipsets too.
  2. Surprisingly it is even possible to get my modded nForce IDE drivers v10.3.50.8 installed by running the installer (although the drivers have lost their WHQL stamp by the modification of the INF files), but this probably will only work, if the previously installed nForce IDE drivers have been removed (not recommended with nForce RAID systems!).
  3. Since HP has only published the SATARAID driver folder, it might be possible, that these drivers v10.3.50.8 are optimized for nForce RAID systems and that users with a RAID may get better results than dajife.

@ all Vista users with an nForce4 RAID system:

The installation of Vista onto an nForce4 RAID system by loading the actual nForce IDE drivers is still a problem, because neither the nForce IDE drivers v9.99.09 nor the v10.3.0.21 are able to detect the RAID when being loaded during the Vista installation.
So the next question is: Do my modded nForce IDE drivers v10.3.50.8 work with nForce RAID systems from scratch?
If anyone would try it, that would be great.
Your running Vista will not be affected at all, if you just do the following:

  1. Copy the suitable 32/64bit SATA_IDE and SATARAID driver folder of my modded driver package onto a USB stick or onto 2 floppy disks.
  2. Boot off your Vista x86/x64 DVD.
  3. Load the content of the SATARAID and then the SATA_IDE driver folder, when prompted, and look, if your RAID will be detected or not.
  4. Abort the Vista installation.

Please report here, if your RAID has been detected or not.

Thanks in advance!

@ Fernando: No, this driver still doesn't detect an nForce4 RAID array.

However please note the following: Your general information, that your drivers can't be loaded from scratch isn't correct!
I always stated, that this information is only valid for a Vista x64 SP1 DVD (I'm not sure wheter the x32 SP1 DVD also suffers this problem). There is NO problem loading your drivers on the Vista x64 non SP1 DVD!

Not even by booting off the non-SP1 Vista DVD?
Which scenario did you test (clean install or driver update)?

Thanks for this clarification.
I didn't know that and will add this information to my Vista installation guide.

It was already unbelievable, that NVIDIA has not been able to develop Vista RTM in-box nForce SataRaid drivers, which were fully supporting all nForce4 RAID systems, but according to your findings NVIDIA obviously has delivered even worse drivers to Microsoft for being incorporated into Vista SP1 - really weird!

1) No, I didn't tried to install the driver... I only tried to boot the x64 non-SP1 DVD and to load the driver(s). If the driver would work, than it would have recognized the RAID array.

2) As I already said in one other post: I don't know if it is NVIDIAs or Microsofts fault... It could also be Microsofts fault (and I believe that it is MSs), because I never tried to load any other non-whql driver on the Vista Installation. Further I can remember of a KBxxxxxx-patch Microsoft had released, which only allows unsigned driver to be loaded by the "Disable driver signature enforcement". Maybe they forgot the dvd... because also using this option on the dvd doesn't allow your unsigned driver to be loaded...

EDIT: For clarification I decided to load an unsigned driver of another company (Areca) to see which fault it is...
