|

|
been looking into getting a new mp3 player as my old iRiver iMP 550 is not really suitable for running/gym type stuff.
After something cheap, good sound quality, long battery life (ideally +20hrs), at least 2gb storage, drop and drag, and can play all kinds of audio media (mp3, ogg, flac, etc). oh and robust.
Was thinking about the SanDisk Sansa Clip (2gb), or Creative Zen Stone.
Anyone with one or both these got any pro and cons. Would they fit my requirements? If i upped my budget a bit, would it be worth getting a Sony NW-A816 or Samsung YP-T10. Don't really need video though.
Any other suggestions?
cheers

The Clip is meant to have extremely good audio quality so definately check it out.
Maybe look at the Cowon brand too if you want the more 'open' codecs. |

cheers Daglesj. The Clip does seem like the most sensible option (cheap and does the job).
Would love a Cowon, but i think they are a tad pricey. |

Yeah they can be but I think they tend to be the most flexible of players.
You get what you pay for I guess (well not always).
If you are going for a small flash based player then you may well not use Flac as it would significantly reduce the amount of tracks you could store on say a 2Gb unit could also hit battery life. But if you just want a few albums it wouldnt be a problem. Support for Flac on such units could be hard to find though.
Just try to avoid using MP3 if you can. Much better/efficient codecs out there now. |

bit late now i'm afraid as the majority of my music is now MP3'ed
i hear what you're saying regarding file size and battery usage for FLAC. Definitely something worth considering.
edit: at the moment, i'm leaning towards the Sony A816

went for a sony NWZ-A816 in the end.
cost less than £50, 4GB mem, 30hrs+ battery, great sound, good ear buds, and works really well so far. shame about lack of OGG or other codec support though. |
