As far as I have read on the net the most stable for dual core (X2) Athlons BIOS for M2N32-SLI Deluxe is 1201. It was also stated that nevertheless some CPU high temperature readings the best for Phenoms is 1701.
I downgraded from 1903 (no problem running it from the day of release, it just wouldn't let me install XP nor Vista) to 1201 and my clean install went trouble less (despite minor issues with drivers for WIFI USB card ASUS sells with Wireless Edition & AD1988B). |

Thanks m8y for that
I have no floppy drive attatched to this rig now, if i flash from usb using Ez Flash and my rig didn't boot how can i force downgrade again using the 'f' command in dos? put awardflash onto the usb ? will it run from there?
Gotta understand m8 just worried another board will die gotta be carefull with this 1 lol
I posted this in the Corsair forums as i run the Dominator 8500's
'Hello forum peeps
Well my 4800x2 has a Thermalright 120 Extreme strapped to it now but it does not want to overclock at all
If i let the mobo Auto oc it my cpu goes to 2750 but oc manually and i get some strange speed errors like 230 x 12 - 3370 ?
Had to move my mem modules to A2/B2 as 120 Extreme blocks the first 2 slots off now is this the cause ?
With the stock HSF combo i was using 225 x 12 np any ideas anyone ?
Btw is the stock voltage for the 4800x2 1.3v ? whats the max u think it would go ?
My idle temps are CPU 19 degrees Core 1 & 2 are at 6 degrees max cpu i have seen is 39 degrees so it should give me some headroom to overclock quite well if i can get the settings correct.'
Maybe the ram is no good in A2/B2 slots instead of A1/B1 (they hit the 120 Extreme cpu cooler in the 1 slots) even though Everest & CPU-Z reports Dual mem running ?
Btw this was my reply in the Corsair forum (more info & ideas)
'Thanks for the ideas to look at so far.
Derek all i changed is what i said above ^^^^ the mem moved from A1/B1 slots to A2/B2 because 120 Extreme would hit the massive heat spreaders on them.
Don't know if this is correct usage but i added a 120mm fan to the Extreme cooler and plugged onto the cpu_fan connector, only thing is that the cpu_fan con has 4 pins so does the stock cooler but the fam im using has 3 pins as said ??? this could be it ? has pwm (power meter?) or something on the stock fan connector, extra wire is blue any ideas? maybe have the fan connected to standard fan header instead ??
I got 2gb ddr2 @ 667 corsair value which will miss the 120 cooler so ill try them in the first 2 slots as b4, that stuff runs np v@ 940MHz as well so oc should occour.
I only used AUTO oc as a last resort fellas as i do know its not the best/extreme oc that this combo can do.
The reason i bought the 120 Extreme was to push my cpu comfortably & easily. This was running @ 242 x 12 - 2904Mhz ram @ 968Mhz easily b4 upgrade.
I havent made any other changes other than graphix from 7950gx2 to Evga 8800GT.
Auto oc @ the mo is 220 x 12.5 - 2750 ram @ 786Mhz, idle temps are cpu-23,core 1-10 core 2-8, these seem good to go for better oc.
Like i said really appreciate your time & views on this.
Thanks'
Help much appreciated

I do not have good experience at oc'ing X2's - all I can get without any issues is to run RAM @800MHz (DDR). I tried it on several mobo's...
EDIT: as I am using mainly Scythe Ninja coolers on AM2 CPU's I am putting RAM into 3rd & 4th slot - maybe this is really making a difference?

This can be closed now sorted
Did a new install (as stated) just to get my 8800GT going.
Did as tjwasiak suggested & flashed bios using my usb stick to 1201 & it was ok and running like a trojan.
While i can run this memory @ 1066 np now the latency seems quite slow, on Everest, maybe because its in the other 2 slots coz of my fridge of a cooler
This board meant to be 10 x 268 to get the mem to 1066,mem divider will be 5, but fsb was also good at 300 which gave me a 50% increase
Idel temps were about 35 ambient,30 on the cpu + load goes about 7 on each which aint bad.
My GT temps running Crysis reached 58 fan running @ 60% which is also good i guess.
A big thanks to all the help from you guys, yet again.
You got to understand though the last time i flashed to the latest bios,1903, it killed my board (maybe meant just for Phenom's ? not 4800x2 ? anyone know ?) so i was a bit hesitant this time.
Thanks |
