|
|
|
hi there.
after a fresh install, i checked my device manager with enabled "view hidden devices" option.
i have 1 ide dvd-rw and 2 sata-hd in a raid-0 (nvidia 590 sli mobo). this is what i see:
at ata/atapi controller:
ata channel 0
ata channel 1
nvidia nforce serial ata controller (no attached devices shown)
nvidia nforce serial ata controller (no attached devices shown)
standard pci-ide controller
at "storage controllers":
nvidia nforce raid controller
nvidia nforce raid device
nvidia nforce raid device
nvidia nforce serial ata controller (both sata hd`s detected)
why is that? storage controller entries are well i think, but i don`t know, why there are ata controller entries named "sata" - with no attached devices. |

What versions of drivers? and what way did you add them at installation?
(Probably, the mounting took an SataIDE...)
Basically on RAID 0 I know this doesn't matter since you can always temporary switch the RAID off and update drivers > reboot > reenable RAID > it will go good as long all devices were updated. |

Well, if they are functioning in good speeds.
I'd say it'd would be fine. Test that with HD Tach and check what are the speeds of that stripe. I'd be happy while there's nothing in red, yellow or other colors of rainbow ms usually pulls up.
Perhaps you got 2 channel RAID 0 and on BIOS 2 channels are SataIDE or AHCI would make sense wwhy there's two Serial-ata devices = 4 Sata ports.

in BIOS, i have enabled the nvidia raid controller and the necessary 2 sata channels 1+2. this board (m2n32 sli deluxe) has only one IDE channel, which is enabled too (my dvd rw drive is an ide drive).
i`m only astonished about the three sata controllers, the device manager shows. it seems, that both ide channels are shown up additionaly there as sata controllers:

So there's your explanation. Read what you just wrote to me.

you mean "it seems, that both ide channels are shown up additionaly there as sata controllers" ?
is this a bug or did i something wrong during installation? maybe someone with a similiar setup (2 sata hd in raid 0, 1 ide drive) could compare this. |

This is not a bug. You obviously have enabled 2 more NVIDIA S-ATA ports than needed (and used) within your mainboard BIOS.
Only the NVIDIA nForce Serail ATA Controller, which is listed within the "Storage Controller" section, is managing your RAID array. |
