Hey all,

My 7800GTX recently died I believe, and now I'm looking to replace the video card.

My set up.

A8N SLI PREMIUM
250GB WD Sata II HDD
AMD Athlon 4400 X2 Dual-Core
2 gig Corsair RAM (two sticks)

Running Windows XP SP 2 with DX 9.0c

So being out of touch with all the new technology thats come out my main concerns are these. Looking at the 8800 GT I am concerned that I may run into issues running the card on XP instead of Vista without dx10.

I firmly wish to avoid Vista and would like to know if there could be compatibility issues running the 8000 series on older software and hardware.

If anybody has some knowledge or experience with a 8800 GT on a A8N SLI PREMIUM and could share their thoughts I would be most grateful. Or if you have any recommendations I would also like to hear them.

Thanks for your time.

Locki

Greetings!

The 8800GT will work in XP under DX9 and in Vista under DX9 and DX10.

That said, June will be crowded with the new videocards from nVidia and ATi.

Pretty much all DX10 cards are fine running on XP with the latest DX redist/drivers AFAIK, of course the only thing missing would be DX10 features/support.

An 8800GT still makes a damn fine DX9/OpenGL card... Wink

How about a 9600GT or a HD 3870...?

Would you recommend those cards over the 8800 GT? I'm looking for stability mainly so /shrug

I've been doing a bit of reading and testing in regards to my problem and I'm not sure its actually my graphics card thats shot anymore.

The bios beep code suggested bad Video or VGA adapter with "System Failed VGA test" audio. However I'm starting to think it might be the mother board or just the pci-e slot thats damaged.

I'll look into it more and try to find what is the real cause of the problem because it seems lots of people are having this problem with A8N SLI Deluxe and Premium mobos.

Personally I hope its the video card as thats simple to replace but really dont like the idea of refitting a motherboard /sigh

Thanks again

The 8800GT is the fastest of the 3 cards.. and mine works flawlessly in XP Pro SP3. Getting pretty cheap now too. Wink
