Hey guys

Just wondering if the factory thermal paste on a asus 6600gt pci-e would be better then AS5 or as good ?

I have some AS5 and just for the fun of it, i wanna add some to the 6600GT

cheers

The AS5 should do a better job. As you 'break in' the compound, performance will generally increase.

I'd advise that as long as the factory TIM seems to be doing a good job, and the card temps are normal then leave it be.

Sometimes the factory installs quite thick thermal pads on the memory, which if you tear/screw them up during removal, you'll never be able to fill the gap with just paste, so just be aware.

I've repleced the paste on cheaper low range cards that have either passive or the smaller coolers. I tend to shine a torch betweent the cooler and the card to see if its just white paste.

If it is then out pops the pushpins, clean up and on goes a small spot of better paste.

More for something to do than an actual necessity though.
