ADI SoundMAX 86/88/A/B/89,Xonar [6585/6600/6605][04-03-2010]

Postby TwL » Sat Mar 22, 2008 8:57 am

Going to do this easier this time because the idiotic slow ASUS keeps bushing something even more idiotic online like "anysystem 45-100MB" drivers while their servers doesn't seem to be capable time to time even sending 2MB files.

So, as for result I am going to split the latest by system and include original link who ever wants it. All where needed hotfixes are included separately and Vista/7 has updated OpenAL with them inside *Host OpenAL ADI* usual installation.

The drivers however are unmodified (I am going to include how to modify the newest for your chipset below so ASUS/Sonic Focus usual setup.exe will work straight up). However, you will lose the WHQL tag in process. However, there is 'installation.txt' included for manual update the idea is, if you forcefully update over the original it will be WHQL and functional.

Newest drivers:
Windows Vista [x64/x86]: Vista x86/x64 v6.10.02.6600 *Includes Separated install note + Host OpenAL package folder with OpenAL v2.1.0.0*
Windows 7 [x64/x86]: Win7 x86/x64 v6.10.02.6600 *Includes Separated install note + Host OpenAL package folder with OpenAL v2.1.0.0*
Windows XP [x64]: XP x64 v5.10.02.6605
Windows 2000/XP [x86]: XP/2000 x86 v5.10.02.6605
Official ALL-IN-One: All above versions you can find at:
HTTP: ASUS HTTP Server Global *fast*
FTP: ASUS FTP Server 02 *slow*

NOTE: Above drivers are for ADI 1989B ONLY to get them working with your SoundMAX you need to edit 'Platform.cfg' and 'ADIHdAud.inf' and include your ADI chipset as follows:
1. Open Device Manager > 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers' > find the 'High Definition Audio Device' or 'SoundMAX HD Codec'> Properties > Details > 'Hardware Ids'-drop down box
Example: if your Hardware ID is: HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_11D4&DEV_198B&SUBSYS_1043829C
2. You would open 'Platform.cfg' and add:
Code: Select all
[11D4989B-10438334]
JSense=0
DisplayFinishRebootDialog=1

[11D4198B-1043829C]
JSense=0
DisplayFinishRebootDialog=0

(added 1 entry as [] topic)
3. Then open 'ADIHdAud.inf' and add:
Code: Select all
[AnalogDevices.NTamd64]

%HdAudioFunctionDriver.ADICodec.DeviceDesc% = A1989B,   HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_11D4&DEV_989B&SUBSYS_10438334
%HdAudioFunctionDriver.ADICodec.DeviceDesc% = A1989B,   HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_11D4&DEV_198B&SUBSYS_1043829C

(added 1 line as in full hardware ID utilizing A1989B setups which is pretty much same as in all chips as what goes to speakers.)
4. Install the driver as in 'installation.txt' or as usual.

All systems with out editing:
Download: SoundMAX v6.10.02.6530 [Windows Vista] - ASUS FTP *slow*
Download: SoundMAX v6.10.02.6585 [Windows 7]- ASUS FTP *slow* FastLink HERE Megaupload *MD checked*
Download: ASUS HTTP: SoundMAX v6.10.02.6530 [Windows Vista x86/x64]- ASUS HTTP *fastNEW*
Download: ASUS HTTP: SoundMAX v6.10.02.6585 [Windows 7 x86/x64]- ASUS FTP *fastNEW*

(Tested the new drivers both will work on all systems except XP (but scroll down 5.x series are for XP/XP64. New drivers seems to also correlate the SoundMAX PnP & the ADI filter, but I still suggest that you get the newest OpenAL driver to the new SoundMAX drivers extract the 'EAX' with WinRAR and copy over 'OALINST package' because this fixes most of game sounds using old one is just bad idea.)

----------------------

Okay, everything is now redone. because ASUS updated their servers, folder naming & literally everything. I simply rewrote the checked URLs. Should be fine again, if you find an broken link please let me know as soon as possible.
NOTE: New drivers we will be seeing will more likely next be unique OS based drivers and not really new. There is no new drivers out there according to couple main manufacturers and usage suggestions are on last message on this post as usual.

Before you Install

You don't need whole SoundMAX Control Panels. You don't need speaker detections which are biggest failure ever on these. So, my advice to you is to install the driver manually on your Device Manager & 'special' installing the 'Host OpenAL (ADI).exe' which comes with every driver (XP Exception) and remove the extra forced services by SoundMAX while updating driver controlling the device entirely from Windows Control Panel > Sound (options).

Setup driver Process Windows Vista/Windows 7 - 32-bit/x86 and 64-bit/x64:

1. Open your Device Manager
2. Locate Sound, Video and Game Controllers
3. right click the sound card > 'Update Driver Software..' > 'Browse Computer for My Software' > 'Let me Pick from a list of device drivers on my Computer' > 'Have Disk...' > Now Browse and locate inside the SoundMAX driver folder "\amd64\Vista"-for x64 systems OR "\i386\Vista"-for x86 systems > OK > Install the driver > Do not reboot when asked.
4. Do Not reboot > Wait for 30 seconds. > If there is no sounds in box now there won't be any after reboot (, If there is then skip to step 5) > Uninstall the SoundMAX driver (and delete driver software) > Right Click 'sound, video and game controllers' > 'Scan for Hardware Changes' > it will find the 'Windows HD Audio driver' > Repeat process 1-5 with other SoundMAX drivers or Modify the driver as written in below messages.
5. Open 'regedit' > HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run > delete the 'smax4pnp.exe' Entry.
Note: If I somehow got mistaken which registry key it's at look at these keys if it's not there:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

6. Open/Run 'Services.msc' > Stop and Disable 'Andrea ADI Filters Service'.
7. Reboot.
8. Configure your speakers from > Control Panel > Sound (Right click the speakers you're using first & Configure Speakers) > Double click the speakers & setup rest of your setup.

Host OpenAL (ADI) Setup Process *aka. do it right when doing something*:
-Extract from 'SM_EAX\Host OpenAL (ADI).exe' with WinRAR (Right click > Extract.. > OK
-Copy over the 'oalinst.exe' to "\SM_EAX\Host OpenAL (ADI)".
-Run the Setup & reboot.

This gives your soundMAX wrote:Updated Summer 2009 : Version 2.0.7.0

Windows Vista/Windows 7 [x86/x64] Section of Drivers:

I simply had to come and correct some of ideas I had here for SoundMAX ADI. As basically the ADI devices are supported by Levono newer drivers,
but as today seems all changes and device tags are different on all manufacturer boards. So going to include working/functional setups & commons only.

ASUS Section:

ASUS FTP - ASUS HTTP
*Thanks to venejo for note us of these drivers*

19.03.2009 Note for v6.10.02.6520 driver:
Well, after some study on these drivers. Seems user 'venejo' was correct these are the newest of SoundMAX and has a bit advance on some situations to v6.10.02.6480 by sonic focus, but this is hardware dependable ofcourse OS dependable. The v5.10.01.6520 for Windows XP are newest and best.

These drivers were mainly designed it seems for ADI 1989B chipset (Vista Only). The DTS driver there for supports only this chipset (DTS gives Sensaura Experience Bass boost, chorus and LFE Mixing UNDER Stereo speaker enviroment). The Non-DTS drivers has tags for AD1988-1989B chipsets through (XP-Vista). Non-DTS means the normal Panel however this SoundMAX panel is the old one not the 'BlackHawk'.

There still is no fix for low volume control or reduced volume control over front speakers/headphones, but seems the AudioESP was fixed in some level.

I also personally wanted to test the DTS Audio for 1988B chipset. So builded quick inf/cfg modification for it to go through normal SoundMAX installation (This can be forced through device manager in official .inf files, but anyway build one).
Correction: including universal ADI/SoundMAX Guide to 3rd post of this topic.

6.10.02.6570 [17-10-2008][ADI 1986B-(1988/A/B)-1989-200B] [Recommended update]:

ASUS FTP - ASUS HTTP
*Thanks to frytom for note us of these drivers*

NOTE: These drivers literally comes with nothing new. Ones again. I'd stick with the old ones as updating SoundMAX is pain in the ars (well, unless you follow my guide on how to do it simpler and better above). Anyway, These drivers comes with no DTS addition. They are plain compatibility drivers build for Windows 7 (Which also works as well on Vista). However considering there never was anything wrong in the 6520 and Windows 7 in the first place exception of badly coded stuff by on Control Panels and Speaker detections (ESP) the drivers worked just fine.

These drivers however may come with better SPDIF Interface, however that won't still allow you to do anything better on SPDIF under Windows 7 than what you had on 6480 or 6520 originally. What goes to SPDIF people out there seems to use HDMI -> SPDIF > Removing the SoundMAX & using that on 192kHz. Keep in mind there's a lot of titles out there which will not launch, if you set either the normal Speakers or the SPDIF over 48000Hz and these games will drop you random Graphical interface bug to mix the soup or black screen you out to desktop with no reason.

Sonic Focus

This Driver is meant for SoundMAX ADI 1988 (Sadly also 1986 bugs this way) x86/x64 as an Fix because every single driver 'audiodg.exe' file uses
around 500000 up to 1,5 million handles because of the DSP profiling. So they released fix and it works dropping all handles to around 200...
Stressing system VERY much less... [Recommended update]

Levono - v4aud15us17.exe Levono - v4aud15us17.txt

Audio Center Features on new drivers:

Windows XP [x86/x64] Section of drivers:

High Definition BUS driver correction for systems needing them:

Windows XP / 2000 'x86' needs little help on High Definition Audio Bus driver before installing actual driver. So here's Microsoft & HP combination which needs to be installed before HD Audio drivers.

(New notice)
Looks like there is even better compination of drivers on HP website:
Here is link: Hotfix SP33566
you will still need this after: Microsoft Hotfix 888111

and since our lovely Hewlett-Packard wants to play games and delete if not success on their idiotic installer...

Here is Extracted sp33566 (Has all 36 languages to all XP systems (OEM, SP1, SP2) and so on...) :
MediaFire - Mirror - HP-sp33566-extracted RAR File
MediaFire - Mirror - HP-sp33566-extracted SFV Check File
(Files were scanned on latest Kaspersky AV)

Installation is simplistic:
first.. Open your Control Panel > Device Manager
second.. locate the Unknown Audio device or PCI Device > right click it > properties
third.. update driver.. > browse location / have a disc.. > direct it to this folder and select kb888111<yoursystem>-<yourlanguage> from folders & 'commonfiles'-has the actual driver files.
four.. hit update.. > done

(This will update the device in situation on Windows XP x86/x64 system where you cannot install SoundMAX drivers (Or realtek drivers) and no 'High Definition UAA device package will go through'.)

(Levono site was so slow didn't dare to copy it here, hehe, but tested with Realtek as with SoundMAX. x86 XP OEM to SP3 & w2k all working from HP file)

Re: ADI SoundMAX 86/88/A/B/89,Xonar [6585/6600/6605][04-03-2010]

Postby TwL » Sun Apr 27, 2008 7:02 pm

Well, as mentioned on top post. I modded inf files for the latest DTS(Digital Theater System) Audio driver v6.10.02.6520 (which includes 2CH compining 8CH Sensaura Audio experience) to be suitable with chipsets 1988/A/B. Works just fine with out bugs as far I see now after a month or so.

However, I decided to not to release on driver here, but instead show people how to mod SoundMAX drivers since it's a bit tricky in a sense. However, this guide will work with/for missing DeviceIDs/HardwareIDs for universally to any SoundMAX/ADI driver.

So, here we go....

Needed files:
platform.cfg
ADIHdAud.inf (Either in 'i386\Vista' for Windows Vista 32-bit or 'amd64\Vista' for Windows Vista 64-bit)

get Non-DTS version 'platform.cfg' & correct 'ADIHdAud.inf' also (Because you want to have those to simply pass your chipset Speaker configurations (Otherwise you will be in hell on earth with AudioESP)).

File Edit 01 (platform.cfg):
1. run... > devmgmt.msc > 'sound, video and game controllers' > properties of either 'High definition Audio codec'(by MS) or 'SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio' > browse to 'Details'-tab > property 'Hardware Ids' > 2nd line will state something like 'HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_11D4&DEV_198B&SUBSYS_1043829C' (Leave this window open)
2. As step 1. we got HardwareID now we get correct device:
VEN_####&DEV_####&SUBSYS_########
^ Mark down the '#' symbol characters from your hardwareID like:
[########-########]
^ This is your device.
3. now open the 'Non-DTS 'platform.cfg' side-by-side with 'DTS 'platform.cfg' and search the 'Non-DTS' one for the '[11D4198B-1043829C]'-yourhardwareIDExample and copy the lines below it until next [] comes to last line of DTS 'platform.cfg'.
4. Done, save the new DTS 'platform.cfg'

File Edit 02 (ADIHdAud.inf):
1. Open Non-DTS 'ADIHdAud.inf' & search for your full HardwareID (as we searched it above).
2. Copy the line from Non-DTS INF to DTS version of 'ADIHdAud.inf' under '[AnalogDevices.NTamd64]'.
3. duplicate whole topic '[A1989B.NTamd64]' below the original and change 'A1989B' to what ever was after '%HdAudioFunctionDriver.ADICodec.DeviceDesc% = ' and before ', HDAUDIO\...' you just added on 1. part.
4. Do same thing to topics '[A1989B.NTamd64.Services]', '[A1989B.NTAMD64.CoInstallers]', '[A1989B.NTAMD64.HW]' & '[A1989B.NTAMD64.Interfaces]'.
NOTE: Not the '[A1989B.AddReg]'-topic.
5. go back to '[A1989B.AddReg]' & copy whole '[YourDevice.AddReg]'-topic from Non-DTS INF below the '[A1989B.AddReg]' topic.
6. Done, save the new DTS 'ADIHdAud.inf'.

Now you can install the modified driver. It will in both x86/x64 Vista OS'es b**** about driver not beeing digitally signed, but considering you couldn't use official installer at all unless you modify a bit.

Including probably the Lames screenshot for the month:

Soundmax Blackhawk aka. v6.0.02.0260 and all below has an issue of 'infinite' usage amount of handles in system creating really stressful on load & processing in machines.

They have updated Temporary solutio, full driver fix in their pages and updated that to top post now. Tested myself and seems to be dropping handles like from 780 thousand on my box to total around 200.. hehe, so quite an change.

ad1986a 5.1 vista

Postby merkin » Sun Jun 01, 2008 8:58 pm

I have a p5nsli and cannot get 5.1 sound to work in vista. This board has jack sensing technology, but of course it only works with xp. Does anyone have a working driver in vista for this sound chip. When I setup the speakers in vista I select 5.1, and then click "test". The sound only comes out of the left and right speakers. I do not get sound from the center, subwoofer, or the two rear speakers.

What kinda speakers do you have? Attached them correctly? (they will not activate unless they are plugged to right way) With example 2.1 speakers as far I know it is impossible to do it. 5.1 Audio simply enabled the 'Subwoofer' channel. I actually e-mailed sonic Focus about this subject since had so many setups with 3/0+SW and 2/0+SW and """they support none other than 5.1 4/0+SW"""(Corrected below).

(E-Mail Left yesterday explaining the issue with screenshot.)

---Update---

hmm, received no E-mail, but figured that I simply added Line-out Subwoofer, Speakers R-L Speakers. Added the Speakers as AudioESP detection system asked them in. > I got to Windows Control Panel > Sound > right click Speakers > configure... > disable 'Rear', 'Center' > next > Surround > and all sounds after this action started to come through right directions.

here are the speakers
Code: Select all

As far as attachment. There are three wires. I just attached them according to color.
Here is the manual
Code: Select all
http://ccftp.creative.com/manualdn/Manuals/TSD/8266/0xE5E6D6DD/Inspire%20P5800%20Connectivity%20Multilingual.pdf

And some pics of the board
[HERE]

Again what drivers should I be using. It sounds like you are using xp when you talk about AudioESP. I did not know vista used the jack sensing feature. As I said before the speakers work correctly in xp. I am trying to get them to work in vista.

BTW thanks for the quick response I appreciate the help and advice.

All newer Soundmax drivers has AudioESP. Use as in second post provided Recommended drivers by me. Choises are that you accept the 500k-1Million handles overload or get the Sonic Focus Driver pack as suggested. Sonic Focus driver pack v6.10.02.6480 comes with 'BlackHawk' Panel and older & recomended older comes with 'New sonic focus'-panel.

All has AudioESP, I am using Vista x64 & XP x64 both actually. btw, no way those goes by color at least not for SurroundFX card. Got here also one set 5.1 and as far I have here colors black for rear, orange for subwoofer & green for speakers. Normal SoundMAX ADI 1988A I got here they go Subwoofer to MIC Speakers to green & rear to lineout.

Twl,

thanks a lot for your post!!!

I believe the Vista drivers from Asus (top) they are all 6.10.1.xxxx instead of 6.10.2.xxxx as it may say on their website - I've just installed the latest version labeled 6.10.2.6400 on my ASUS R2H and it says 6.10.1.6400 in Device Manager. Also if you can check but opening the ADIHdAud.inf and look for DriverBuildID.

I might also try the Lenovo drivers to see if they perform better than than the Asus ones, I hope they have the Sonic Focus audio processor too.
[Edit] I've tried both Lenovo Vista drivers (6.10.1.6200 and 6.10.1.6300) manually updated through Device Manager since the installer didn't work on my ASUS R2H. obviously nothing much for me there since the installer didn't work, no audio processor... going back to the Asus ones.

I thought the BlackHawk drivers are only for 1988 that's what it seems to say on Sonic Focus page as well as looking into the inf in the archive.

Thanks a lot for your work, again.

Well I tried the blackhawk drivers and I get this error Image
Also there is a newer version on the sonic focus website. 4.0 I think. Tried it as well, but received the same exact error.

So I settled for the 6.10.02.6140 from here in the forum, however like member Dan Dar3 (who posted above) my device manager reports the driver version as 6.10.1.6400.

Also you have me worried about the 500000 up to 1 million handles because of the DSP profiling. How concerned should I be?

You think if I manually install just the drivers from the blackhawk package it will eliminate the "500000 up to 1 million handles" issue without other complications? Or am I way off?
