Hello you guys! i am trying to install windows vista on my RAID 0 composed of one 80gb ATA HDD, and one 80gb SATA2 HDD (nForce 4 Ultra mobo)

I haven't been able to do it yet... i've read that huge article "vista and nvraid instalation guide", and tryed each and every method despite that it said it wouldn't work for me.

I was wondering if any of you somehow managed to install vista on such a configuration.

I am running windows XP on it, and it works great!

Whithin my guide there is a special part (Annex) with a description how other users succeeded with an Nforce Pata-Sata-RAID mix configuration.

I looked again, and indeed i messed up Annex 1, because it didn't give me a bsod after the restart anymore... the odd thing is that i get an error at 31% of the installation, that said that vista couldn't install some files, and i should check that all files needed for installation are there... i don't really know why it says this... i guessed that it has something to do with the fact that i started setup from windows xp, and now after the restart, he can not find the files of the drivers i loaded before the installation.(i also tried to load drivers from floppy, and then leave the diskette in after the restart...didn't work)(Dvd is fine, i tested it on a virtual machine, it installed ok)

and another thing.. i don't know if it is normal, but after i started the installation from windows xp and loading the mentioned drivers, the setup began, copied the setup files, started expanding quite fast until 26%, and then it restarted the computer (a good "15 sec. until restart" restart, not a sudden/bsod restart). after that it enters the vista setup and resumes installing from 27% onward. i was wondering if that's the normal setup procedure, or if there's something wrong...

p.s.1 as a feedback, the "Other option" from Annex 2 did not work for my kind of raid... the setup, again, only saw the pata hdd even after loading the modded drivers pointed by the article.

p.s.2 i was wondering if there could be problems because of the sequence in which the drivers are loaded... could there be a certain order in which to load them? because... i've been experimenting, and at one point, after loading some sata controller driver, the setup stopped seeing the pata hdd, thing that never happed before... sadly after loading the pata controller and the rest, the computer either bsod on me, or did not see anything. i tried a few combinations, with various undesired effects.

p.s.3 i hate it that nvidia tries to forget about it's "legacy"(~1-2 year old) customers. Mighty unprofessional of them... i bet they'll never come up with a solution to these problems.

You should only load the nForce IDE drivers and nothing else while installing Vista. All the other drivers should be installed once Vista is up.

As far as I remember this is normal, when you are starting the Vista Setup from within Windows XP.

the heck with it... i tried and i tried, and still i couldn't install it... and the funny thing is, that it is all variable! sometimes the annex 2 ("recommended method") works until the point it doesn't find those files, and sometimes it bsods on me after the restart from xp... i did not load any other drivers but all those in the nForce_IDE_699_32bit_LEGACY_mod_by_Squall_repacked_by_Fernando folder, and it either bsod or didn't find the files.. i even tried a whole other vista dvd, ...only difference was the bsod code... i now am about to reinstall windows xp, and to it exactly by the book.

and one more question... i'm beginning not to be sure of what kind of raid i have... does it matter which of the hard disks i put first when i create the raid? i mean... at F10 raid setup, if i first add the pata hdd in the list and then the sata it will be a pataraid, and if the sata is first it's a sataraid? cause in device manager there's only a sataraid controller there ...so... i could be barking at the wrong tree with annex 2 "recommended method"... Question

That is a good idea, because this way you will get the nForce IDE drivers v.6.99 from scratch, which will be a better basis
for the later Vista installation.

You obviously have neither a PataRAID nor a SataRaid, but a PataSata-Mix-RAID array. Maybe you have a better chance to get Vista installed, if your S-ATA hdd is the first device, when you are going to create the RAID, but I am not sure, if this has any influence.

Wouldn't it jsut make it alla LOT simpler if you got an IDE-SATA adapter... so both drives would be on SATA channels? I've done that before and it worked fine 'cos you'd only have to deal with the SATA drivers.
