hey scooby, i've just picked up the ASUS Maximus Formula after my 7th 680i board died on me (i've really given up on both the 680i and 780i series now.)

i've gone the whole watercooling route like you have, i already had a Thermaltake Kandalf LCS case, but i've replaced all of the built in watercooling components (apart from the radiator) with custom parts.

practically same spec as you almost:
CPU Block: D-TEK FuZion CPU Block
GPU Block: D-Tek FuZion & GFX Uni-Sink Combo
RAD: Thermaltake Kandalf LCS Standard Radiator
PUMP: Laing DDC-1 Ultra 18watt Pump with Plexi Reservoir Top
MOSFET: Thermalright HR-09U Type 2 Mosfet Cooler x2
NB: Swiftech MCW30 Chipset Waterblock

i had to settle for some bog standard XSPC Tubing and i haven't gotten anything to cool my SB with as i hadn't quite decided what to put on it yet, - though seeing your picture i guess i might aswell go for the HR-05 aswell, it seems to fit well.. (origionally i thought but what about the second graphics card? that i don't have... i completely forgot that this board doesn't do SLI... lmao. so no excuse not to cool the SB anymore i guess.)

i've got a quad core extreme in my system, i'm eager to see how high i can clock it with this new board and watercooling system. ;D

everything arrives on friday.

question though: where did you get your coolant from? i haven't been able to find anyone that has it in stock, at the moment i'm going to have to use what's left of my thermaltake coolant that came with the case, and it being an ugly green colour aswell as corrosive to the motherboard i'd rather NOT have to use it ... ;o

Setup looks great as always scooby! I was also looking at the Q6600, but I think I'm really leaning towards the 6850! =] So those thermalright HS you have for the chipsets, are they nice and quiet? I LOVE the looks of them on that board! I was also planning on running the Ultra 120 Extreme.

Anyone know a place I could order the 6850 from in the US, and be able to specify a GO stepping? I'm sure I wouldn't be able to do that with Newegg?

Someday I'll have the brass to run a watercooled setup. Rolling Eyes Laughing

Way to go UDF2Diablo, welcome to the club.

I got my coolant from SVC.com link HERE I think they will ship to the UK but I'm not sure.

Here is a heads up that I posted on another forum...

Quote:
Note: if you guys are going to use the Thermalright HR-09U Type 2 on your mosfets especially the one by the I/O plate side you will notice that the two capasitors make for a tight fit when installing the heatsinks. I took a Dremel to one of the fitting and sanded it down a bit to thin it down and BAM!!! When Installing it did not even touch the capasitors. Sorry no pics but I thought for those of you who want to do this should know.

Make sure you do this so you won't damage your capasitors on that side.

Another note, when removing the heatpipes and heatsinks use a hairdryer on the SB and NB for about 5-10 seconds then with a screwdriver and a little pressure it shouls pop out very easily. This process worked for me and I just used my hand and POP it came off.

If your not going to WC your SB may I suggest THIS. I think you may have to do a little modification on the hole for the mounting but it should do the job.

Here is a list of 'Confirmed block fit list' for the Maximus SE: Thanks to Taloman at Extremesystems forum.
CPU - D-TEK FuZion, Swiftech GTX, EK-Supreme - Plexi, EK-Supreme Acetal.

MOSFET - EK-Mosfet ASUS 3a (X38), EK-Mosfet ASUS 3a - Acetal (X38), Sixdesign sold by MIPS.

North Bridge - EK-NB S-MAX, EK-NB S-MAX Acetal, DangerDen Maze4, Sixdesign sold by MIPS,
Swiftech MCW30 (Caution: some have problems with the MCW30 being a tad too small.)

South Bridge - EK-NB/SB ASUS 3, EK-NB/SB ASUS 3 - Acetal, Sixdesign sold by MIPS.

This list well help the guess work on what waterblock to use on this board.

Wow RYknow you snuck that as I was writing my responce to UDF2Diablo.

Anyways, those Thermalright HR-05 didn't come with those fans you see on my board I added them myself. As far as how quiet they run...I would say pretty quiet and the best thing is you can adjust the speed in the bios through Q-Fan.

If you stick with the E6850 you'll be at 3.6Ghz at the lowest voltage set in the bios. I was running 3.6Ghz at 1.36v (cpu-z) completely stable.

Great! Thanks for the input Scooby. I really like the looks of your setup there, and seeing the Maximus with those Thermalright HS on it may have sold me! =P

Now...do you mind my asking where you got your chip from?! If I'm going to do this...I want a GO stepping.

Thanks man! And again, your setup looks SWEEEET!!! Thumbs Up

Know problem RYknow, I'm glad that my setup made the deciding factor to your purchase...and I think that picture really says a thousand words. Funny I posted that pic at another forum and other guys love the way it was setup too. Just follow some of the prep instruction I posted, they will help make your transformation a lot easier.

I got my CPU from mwave.com and you can find it HERE. I have been seeing some guys out their already having the E8500 chip but I can't find them yet. I'll look around maybe you might be interested in getting that one before you spend your money. Wink

does anyone know if it's possible to get hold of clear 5.25" bay covers?

i'm going to be mounting my Laing DDC 1+ pump with res. inside my 5.25" bays as i have alot of space in there still, but i would like to put some kind of clear cover over the bay covers so that you can look inside and see the pump at work.

i was reading a mod somewhere a while ago where somebody had custom done this and it looked really good hence where i got the idea from, can't remember for the life of me where i read about it though.

i guess i could just order some clear plastic and butcher a few of my pre-existing 5.25" bay covers and make my own one .. ;o

^^ infact yeah i'll probably do that, but i am still interested if you can get them ready made from anywhere.

P.S. parts are meant to arrive today but i'm at work still and haven't heard anything about them yet from home.
