V nice overclock 'Angel - just don't blow that CPU up - I'm pretty sure most FX-60's start failing on superPi, etc at about 3.0Ghz-3.2Ghz, so you'll have a tough time replacing it.

Is that the same CPU you were hammering along at 3.25Ghz six months ago?!?

What's probably more impressive is the temps that you're getting at those speeds... it's been a while since I checked, but I think mine's about 35C at idle and 55C at load.... and I've only overclocked mine to 2.65Ghz.... but then that is a 47% increase given it's only a 1.8Ghz CPU

What are your ambient temps? (e.g. mine above were taken with a room temp of 24C).

yeah its the same proc.... but ive been phase change coolin it recently and it ran at 3.6ghz stable for 48 hours

we'll you've inspired me to get a new cooler for my Opteron and step it up a bit more...

Zalman CNPS9700-NT is in the post... 2.7Ghz is the first one to overcome... then the memory multipliers go down and the clock goes up (I'm hindered by a 9x multiplier)... still, that keeps me honest wrt to keeping the memory bandwidth nice and high (some people just crank the CPU speed up on the multipliers and then the CPU numbers look pretty, but it chokes on lack of memory bandwidth.

All true statements, and yes memory is what make the biggest difference, especially in Bench marks and gaming.
My father was runnin a Opteron for a long time, and we got a pretty stable OC on it, however like u said it is a locked processor so the only way to OC is with the ram, if your really wantin to push your AMD limit (modestly of course) you'll need highly overclockable ram, if you dont already some some.
Use memtest 86 and lower your proc speed to figure out your rams limit, the same for the Processor slow down your Ram (minimalizing the CPU as a factor in the ram test, and minimalizin the ram in the CPU test)
finding a common and stable ground for both is what is most important....

Lots of OC'ers just want huge pretty numbers carein little or none about the true proformance boost of the out come. But i can tell your not one of'em keep at it and post your ?'s and out comes here.....cheers man

I'm trying to get another 2Gb of RAM, so I'm not expecting to be able to push this PC4000 memory much beyond the stock 500Mhz, aspecially as I can't find any more Corsair PC4000 twinX kits, so I'm probably gonna end up with Geil, OCZ or G-Skill (the only PC4000 kits around).

I'm trying to do this on a pretty conservative budget too, so i'm not going to replace all the RAM with new stuff, so it's just gonna have to "mix it" with the Corsiar twinX PC4000 "PT" memory.

Hence: 333Mhz memory settings, then push the FSB up until the memory is running at "stock" (500Mhz) will mean the 1.8Ghz CPU will be OC'd to 2.7Ghz... I think that's gonna be my sweet spot... the next step would be 266Mhz RAM settings and then I'll need to be pushing the CPU for about 3.4Ghz to get the memory back up to speed.... given I'd had to start pushign the voltage up as I got to 2.68Ghz last time, I think I'm not going to get much beyond 2.8Ghz...

I've never been a fan of OC'ing the memory - I prefer to buy decent "over spec" memory and then push the FSB to genrate the overclock...
