I have been getting in Game stutters since I got this computer. I see a great deal of HD light activity even though I have plenty of memory, the game shows to be only using 440MB of ram, which should be ok you would think. Its WoW if if that helps any.

I updated the drivers to the 6.86
Updated video drivers to the 163.75
Latest Creative drivers off web
Defragged, checkdisk etc.
Tested for spywear with 3 different programs
Virus scanned

GA K8NF-9 MB
1024 MB Kingston Ram in Dual
AMD 64 3000+
eVGA 7600GT 256 MB
160 GB SATA HD
Audigy2 ZS
WindowsXP SP2

I just visited the Gigabyte site and they recommend the 6.85 drivers? do I downgrade to them, upgrade SATA drivers?. I'm lost. Anyone run into this, the system is otherwise stable besides poor game performance.

make sure u disable any unwanted programs from MSConfig (Only disable unwanted ones not drivers etc).

Also do a scan for adaware\Spyware this can also lead to the problems u are experiencing.

Do this first when this has been done and to no avail then look at hardware or driver problems

Already done MSconfig, only have 26 programs running in the backround.

Ran Spybot, adaware, MS defender. no spyware found.

Ran AVG, no virus's detected.

I'm running out of stuff to check at this point, Should I increase the system memory, to see if that helps?

Thank you for the reply, I need others views at this point in case I missed something obvious here.

1gb of memory isn't much now days.. I'd try turning the video settings down in the games your trying, and if that helps pick up some more memory.

First, thank you for the reply.

I turned down all settings, Texture, Resolution and view distances. Nothing changed. I have good fps in game.

My HD is a Deskstar 7200rpm 8MB so it should be fast enough.

Any issues with the nVidia 6.86 MB drivers that you guys know of?, should I try the 6.85's instead?

All help given was greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the help

Got it sorted I think, Crysis installed two services without asking, PnkBstrA.exe and PnkBstrB.exe. The first one was using up a lot of resources and kept jumping to the top of task manager. Went to evenbalance.com and used their uninstall utility to remove it and all is well.

I seriously doubt that any Punkbuster games will work but it was worth it to get my system back.

It's good to hear you got it sorted.

Yes, for punkbuster games you need those 2 services.. I have them and they work fine. If you ever end up installing them again go to evenbalance's website and download pbsetup which is an update utility for punkbuster. Run that and make sure punkbuster is up to date for all the games you have installed. It may solve the problems you were having.
