Hi, I have an nForce 430 chipset so I installed the nForce 15.01 drivers available at nvidia's site. However I did not install the MediaShield drivers since I read some people were reporting problems with them.

My disk performance seems fine with the default Vista drivers, but on Windows Update there is a listing for -

NVIDIA Corporation driver update for NVIDIA MCP61 Serial ATA Controller

and

NVIDIA Corporation driver update for NVIDIA nForce Serial ATA Controller

When I googled this, it appears that there some issues with data corruption when using the default vista driver:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932932

Haven't experienced this but I want to avoid it. So which SATA_IDE drivers should I install? Ones from Win Update or nforce 15.01?

Thanks.

Neither of them.
Take the nForce IDE (MediaShield) drivers v.9.95 from the 15.08 chipset driver package. They are running fine with your nForce chipset (you may not install the other chipset drivers of that package).

Happend to own that 430 here..

Hmm, you might wanna consider to use driver 9.46 from 710i driver package.

Includes SataIDE v9.98 that seems flawless driver on 430 / 6100 chip and bunched around 195-210MB/s buffered reading speeds comparing to 9.95 171MB/s speeds.. Also rises the linear reading to 77MB/s while the 9.95 only goes to around 67MB/s.. which is quite an increase.. here's url:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_64_9.46.html
(Do not install the Ethernet Controller to 430 from this driver package it's faulty and for another note do not use the installer of driver package that will not update SataIDE. take WinRAR Extract the .exe driver package and manually update the 'Nvidia Nforce Serial ATA Controller' at your Device Manager from SataIDE folder.)

Tho, Fernando there is correct 15.08 v9.95 SataIDE drivers are the exact correct ones, but much slower. Anyhow just an suggestion.
