I did this on my Gf's PC to let her have a Linux 'box' running for testing her websites on etc.
Worked brilliantly, most impressed, err even if she wasnt...at all.
Anyway she got some qudos at work a few weeks ago when the tech guys where she works got all excited about trying it at work. She mentioned casually that she already had one and they were stunned that she had ever heard of it.
Typical tech guys. |

Like the article says, it's nicer to run a VM from a Linux distro as it generally runs/performs better overall IMO.
I've got Windows 98SE running as one of my VM's at the moment, great for some of the older games... |

I'm currently running a VirtualBox VM (Windows XP) under Fedora 8, it feels a lot faster than Windows Vista native on the same box!
VirtualBox is pretty nice, it runs fast, supports a lot of OSes (both guest and hosts), and doesn't need VT-x/AMD-V/whatever extensions to run well. And it's open source, altough Sun bought the company, and started to offer two "editions" of the software. |
