motherboard cpu problems

i'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but i figured what the hell...
i have a biostar m7vkf motherboard and i put in a 1.6 ghz proccessor and my computer will not show that it has it...it is still stuck at the old speed of 747 mhz and i tried to change it in the bios and with jumpers but i can only get it to 840 mhz and then my computer will not play anything it all freezes as soon as the game starts...any ideas would be appreciated

Tried clearing cmos and loading optimised defaults?

tried that and it still showed the 750 mhrz

Have you made sure you have the latest bios for the board?

i cannot update the bios because the board is a legacy board and biostar has some awardflashing utility that i have to have to update from the bios and it doesn't work with xp...

other than that i don't really know how to update the bios another way

yea it said to make a boot floppy with the bios update and the award flashing utilitiy and go into cmos then update through dos but it doesn't work with xp so i don't know what to do

booting to dos of a floppy has [burger] all to do with xp

go to www.bootdisk.com

get a 98se floppy maker

make floppy

put files on it

and run flash from the a prompt
