|
|
|
I have just built a new pc and everytime i try starting up a game or doing something graphic intensive the PC freezes or crashes, normal stuff in windows works fine.
The specs of the PC are:
AMD64 3200+
DFI UT NF4 Ultra-D
1gig of RAM
XFX 7900GT
Antec 500W Smart Power2.0 PSU
I have all the latest drivers and am not sure what is causing the problem, would having generic RAM be the problem??
Any Help would be appreciated
Thanks |

hi,
to see if your ram have problems, go to your bios and enable the option "memtest" and run the test to see if everything is ok.
which mobo/graphics drivers did you install? |

Hmmm havent had this type of DFI query for a while so I'll run through the usual suspects.
As per previous post do a couple of runs at least of memtest just to see if your ram is running stable.
Have you plugged in ALL the power adapters (4 of them)? This board can be flakey without.
Which slots did you put the ram in? Orange used to be the most stable slots.
Cant remember anymore its been a while but scan back about a year on the DFI part and you'll find the hoops we had to jump through to get them working ok.
Have fun. |

| There isn't much to add to NoR's and daglesj's posts. Memtesting your RAM should be your first step. Additionally you might also try researching the database @ www.dfi-street.com - a forum dedicated to troubleshooting DFI boards. But troubleshooting your RAM should still be your first step. |

| I realise your PS should be more than adequate but it wouldn't hurt to make sure that both 1`2V rails are up to snuff. A good diagnostics tool to check would be everest home edition but both speedfan and the actual readings in the bios would also be a good place to start. |

There r various tests u can do in order to try to understand what is the problem. Assuming u have made all the connections correctly and u use latest drivers / bios do the following.
1 ) From the bios enable the Memtest. Let it run for 12 hours ( 24 hours to be 100% sure). If u get errors, then your memory is faulty
2) Run prime95 torture test for 12 hours (24 hours to be 100% sure). If u get errors, the there is something wrong with your cpu / cooling / mobo / psu, so u must thoroughly check every aspect of the above points.
3) Run 3dmark loop for 12 hours so u make sure that nothing is wrong with your 7900GT card.
report back to us with your findings
good luck |

Then again you might just not bother with all that as in general usage you'd probably never put your PC through that in a million years.
Oh and if you do. Make sure the ram is running at stock speeds because if you get an error it may be that the ram is just clocked too high and not an actual fault with the ram. If it will run two or three passes of Memtest you are pretty much ok for general use. When did you last play BF2 at 1600x1200 for 12 hours straight?

LOL
u may get an error at memtest or prime95 after running the programs for several hours. This doesn't mean that u need to play BF for the same amount of time in order to see the error... BF may crash instantly even though memtest needs i.e. 5 hours of testing to show the error.
Yes, I know that 2-3 error-free memtest passes means that 99% of your memory is ok, but don't you want to be 100% sure?
