Have you tried moving the memory to different slots?
This looks as if it is a memory related problem. May be the memory settings. When troubleshooting this type of problem, only change one thing at a time.
This way you will know exactly what was the problem. |

Hello
It just happens that I came looking at this forum with what might be a similar problem and was surprised to see what seems to be identical symptoms at the top of the thread list.
I have replaced my Gigabyte K8NS Pro mobo with a DFI LanpartyUT nF3 250Gb mobo. I have kept my original WinXP install however I ran the Repair existing WinXP installation option from my bootbale WinXP CD.
In BIOS I have tried both Load Optimised Defaults and Load Fail-Safe Defaults.
I can not get WinXP to start Normally. It gets to the screen with the blue scroll blocks but it eventually reboots itself as if caught in a loop.
If I leave my DVD drive attched, I can not boot up using Safe Mode. It hangs at mup.sys. If I detatch the DVD drive, I can then at least get the system to load WinXP in Safe Mode.
SPECS:
DFI Lan Party 250GB nForce 3
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
500MB DR400 RAM (I have another stick of 500MB RAM but system doesnt boot)
Nvidia 6600GT
SATA HDD
480W Antec TruPower
LiteOn x16 DVDR

I have the same problem. I am suspect that it may have to do with the ide driver. did you ever get this issue resolved?
i have had this mobo for 3 years and just recently had this problem.

It lives!
I was never able to fully resolve all the problems I had with the DFI LanpartyUT nF3 250Gb mobo I had. I think I posted on the DFI forums of the problems I also had with getting two sticks of 2GB RAM to work on this motherboard elsewhere (I think the DFI forums).
Rather than understand/solve/fix the problems I was experiencing with this motherboard, I applied the atomic bomb approach...I just went out and bought ANOTHER motherbaord....and ASUS A8N-E and did a fresh WinXP install. I never had any of the problems occur again. My DFI mobo has been gathering dust ever since and the A8N-E has basially flawless.
Some people would say this is a "solution" but really it is avoiding understanding the problem directly. It can be so frustrating trying to solve unusual crappy tech problems with PCs. Sometimes you just have to nuke the problem itself and start again fresh with something else.
Cheers
