So at last I'm going to buy a mobile processor and some more RAM. Before I become destitute with the second baby due in 2 weeks.

Should I go for the XP-M 2600+, or the XP-M 3000+ ?

thanks in advance

muyseco.

Thanks, Gilly. By that reckoning I'm better off with the XP-M2600+ (1.45v) than the XP-M3000+ (1.65v).

Comparo link (for those interested) here on newegg.

cheers

Mind you, trawling through the reviews for both chips suggest that with air cooling on the XP2600+ for 2400, I'll need to run 1.75v for stable running with an idle around 40 degrees. (I'm usuing a silent boost), on the NF7S.

With the 3000+ (although fewer reviews), ISTM smaller voltage change for similar gains, and 2400 is very easy to hit.

Anyone else used the XP-M3000+ on the NF7S? Your thoughts?

TIA

I'm using the M2600+ at 12x200 @ 1.6v (2.4Ghz ~= 3600+). Cooling wise I'm using a Tt Volcano 12+, but with a low-noise fan, which only has moderate air flow. It ides at about 48-50C and peaks out at about 58-60C when its warm in the room and I've been gaming for an hour or so. For me thats acceptable. I can get it up to 13.5x200, but then I have to up the voltage to about 1.95v and put in some serious airflow which is just too noisey for me.

well here we are again. back when I last posted, I was all set to go. newegg screwed me around, wouldn't send downunder on a downunder credit card. damn living in a banana economy. oh well, I got busy with the second child, and gave up on XP-M's and newegg. The next time I looked around, there were hardly any XP processors left!

These days I'm not gaming much - it's all about photo editing. Photoshop needs some more horsepower, and I don't have the money buy a big new machine. So I've looked to ebay, and am at last going to have a go at a mobile processor. prolly an XP-M 2800. I'll let you guys know how it gets on. That should give me another year or so out of this board (museum piece eh?); vista might be sorted by then, or hell perhaps I'll just go mac! Shocked

regards from downunder

talk about an old thread.. Smile

try to avoid in XP-M's above the 2600+ if you can.. if I remember right the XP-M 2800+ had a higher vcore at stock speeds.. making it not as good of an overclocker.
