I got referred here by a friend when i told him my problem. I have an EP-8KDA3I, and when I put in a powercolor Radeon 9800 (not pro) The pc wouldnt boot. The lights flashed and the fans spun for a brief second but that was it. After unplugging the external power from the video card, the PC did power up, but I had no video. I have a PC with a Radeon 9800 Pro (ATI) in a different machine and decided to try to swap the cards. This worked, and both the pc's ran and booted and all that. There was one problem: I had build the PC for a friend and I wasnt confortable giving him my card while i took his.

That was about a month and a half ago, and ever since I ve been using his card. So now im finally getting around to figuring out whats up cuz i want my card back. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

ah yes. actually, i had no idea what that thing was, nobody i knew had one of those on their pc whether they built it or not. But, anyways, i dont recall what it said for the brief second the pc fired up when the video cards external power was plugged in, but when it was unplugged, if i remember correctly, it displayed "FF" when the external power was not plugged in.

Well, I guess the best approach is to use a up to date BIOS then, try disabling fastwrites, try AGP 4x, give 1,6v to AGP.
If nothing works check the code.

PostPosted: Thu Oct 12, 2006 8:34 pm    Post subject: Bios on card or motherboard dislike

Most likely what you describe is some kind of motherboard hardware dislike (try a bios update) or possibly a bios on the video card not getting along with the motherboard. At one time there were video card bios updates released pretty regularly, don't see that too much anymore though. Only other thought that crosses my mind is some kind of short (try a different connector) or an overloaded power supply. How big is the power supply you had the issue with? Even though it might be a 400W sometimes the newer hotter cards are particular about the current supplied on a particular branch and if it's not supplying enough peak it goes into a condition that tells your system the ps is being overloaded and thus we all shut down to protect the system. I would try a bios update on the motherboard and see if you can find anything about a bios update for that card. It could just be a good old fashioned hardware hate and there's nothing you can do about it too. I've had problems in the past where the case interfered with the seating of the video card just enough that the machine wouldn't start so check that too and even bend the back plate if you have to get it to seat fully--when it doesn't start do you get any beeps at all? Or is it just a "the lights are on but no body's home kind of thing."

I also got that problem in my second pc. Can anyone help?
My pc wont start, no screen display, no beeps, no POST, Just a green light of the power button. This problem started when the OS (winXP) didnt finished loading all my startup applications bcause it suddenly restarted. after that restart, my pc automatically scans the disk for errors (a blue screen) and after the scanning it suddenly restarts. after 3 restarts (after the scandisk) the computer doesnt start anymore. It only hangs at the SOTEC screen (the screen that if you press del key it bring you to the bios setup). So i turn the power off, but then when i turn it back on my pc wont start completely (no screen display, no beeps, no POST, Just a green light of the power button).
Pls. help!
