I have an ABit NF7-S v1.2, currently running an AthlonXP (TBred)2400+ at 10x200. I also have 1024Mb of Corsair XMS 3200C2 running at 400-13-3-3-2, its the slightly older DDR400 so the timings are slightly higher and 13-3-3-2 gives me the best results. FSB wise it tops out at about 205-ish where its becomes unstable. I can push the multi up higher but noise is a concern in the environment I use it in and even though my cooler is pretty good (Thermaltake Volcano 12) I can't push it too far before it starts getting toasty or noisy (by adjusting fan speed).
Anyway, I'm not sure whether to get a Barton 3000+ (333FSB) or a mobile AthlonXP. I have seen a lot of good overclocks, but mainly on the v2.0 boards - not that many on the older 1.2's.
Questions:
- How effective are they on the v1.x NF7's?
- What kind of speeds are you guys getting these days?
- And what are your temps like? (please state cooling)
- What advantages does the mobile processor bring?
- Is it simply a matter of plugging it in or is modding required?
- Is the 3000+ a safer buy than a mobile chip?
Thanks in advance you clever folk!

I too share these questions. The M sounds good to me, I see many here with excellent results. Just wondering what it takes to make one a success.
I also note the FSB of the mobiles is 266 - is this any issue? |

The FSB of the Mobile chips is 333FSB iirc, so I think I'm right in assuming many people have to L12 mod them to achieve higher overclocks. I'd probably have to do that on my NF7-S 1.2. It looks very scary |

OcUK just got back to me and they say the AthlonXP-M's are not a good choice for an NF7-S 1.2 and I'd be better off with the 3000+.
Opinions? |

Although there are a lot of variables involved, the performance of mobiles on these boards is nothing to be scoffed at. Take a look at this thread for some idea of what some of us have been able to do.

Plus, a mobile is likely to be cheaper than the 3000, no? Let us know if you have any questions and good luck. |

Thanks to the advice of all those who helped. Just as an update and to complete this thread here's what happened.
I purchased an AlthlonXP-M 2600+ (AXMH) From OcUK. My findings:
Stable at:
12x200 @ 1.6v (2.4Ghz ~= 3600+) - 38C idle, 48C Load
12.5x200 @ 1.725v (2.5Ghz ~= 3800+) - 43C idle, 54C load
13x200 @ 1.8v (2.5Ghz ~= 4100+) - 47C idle, 58C load
Notes:
Stable = memtext86 3.0 = 100% pass, 6Hrs RealStorm2004 Looped, 3DMark03 test passed.
Temps reflect my QUIET setup system, fan speeds on low and in a warmish room.
FSB on my NF7-S 1.2 will not go above 204Mhz stable.
All other voltages at default.
I currently choose to run it at 12.5x200. Silence is more important to me than a little extra speed and I was nearing 60C at load and figured thats a tad warm. I'm going to swap in a new fan for the HSF thats quieter and pushed more air, plus I'm gonna burn in the CPU for a while at the current setting before doing another round of tests.
I'm v.happy with it though! |

FSB of mobile chips are 133. no L12 is needed for pre 2.0 boards. |

| like pershoot said mobiles r a 133 chip. on the ver 1x mobos u have to force the 166 and 200 fsb chip to 133 so theyll oc because of the glitch they have with the higher fsb chips.before the L12 mod my xp2500 wouldnt go past 170 with out crashin now ive gotten to 225 but my ram starts gettin flaky so prob could go higher but i need better ram |
