|

Just got some interesting mail from my mainboard supplier.
In it, he says that EPoX have isolated a flaw in the nForce2 design notes that do not allow the Northbridge chip to correctly control the gameport and MIDI chip, and that this problem exists on all EPoX boards and quite likely on any mainboard which uses nForce2. Symptoms include patchy audio response in Southbridge-equipped designs, inability to disable the onboard gameport through BIOS, and lack of signal input from the MIDI-In line.
Apparently there is a relatively simple hardware mod which can cure this, as soon as I get more information I shall post it.

Yes your correct. I have an Epox 8RGA+ MB and have just had the mod done under warranty. It is simply the removal of a resistor. Thanks Epox. Maybe nVidia need to rethink their position on this matter.

| That's interesting. Looking forward to hearing more about it. Which resistor was removed, Wayne? |

Resistor R315 was the one removed as per picture (4.7K ohm).

| Wayne, exactly what problems manifested themselves in your MB? I have fortunately not experienced any to this point. |

Great pic!! Helped me to get right to it on my 8RDA3+ Rev2.1
For what it's worth, seems they've relabeled the board, but the layout (at least of this section) is the same. The silkscreen for that resistor is now labeled as R34 though on my Rda3+ (as opposed to R315), and comes "factory removed".
Cheers all, and thanks for some very good info!

| How do you remove that resistor? Do you physically remove the whole unit from the board, or do you just cut a connection to make an open circut? |
