Posted: Wed Apr 05, 2006 2:48 am Post subject: HELP! How do I get going without video??? |
|
|
|
I am building a new system using the ECS NFORCE4-A939 motherboard and the XFX GeFORCE 7600GT. The problem is that the mb has no onboard video port and the 7600GT only has two DVI ports.
Don't I need VGA to get this new system going? I put it all together and I am getting no video out of the system. It appears to boot up (fans start, HD spins up, etc.), but nothing on video.
What do you do with a new system that has no access to BIOS and no VGA ports?
Thanks! |

You go to your local scrap-heap, search among the dull grey boxes, and find a working graphic card.
Or buy the cheapest on you can find. |

| You hooked up the video cable from the monitor with a DVI adapter at the card, right? |

wardog,
Yes, no onboard ports on the motherboard, so I connected the monitor to the 7600GT. No DVI adapter was used, just a straight DVI to DVI cable. LCD monitor has DVI port as well. |

EDIT: Also, if the vid card req's a power lead be plugged in, it has one plugged in?
Have you tried moving the cable between the cards two DVI-outs?
Is anything at all displayed on the monitor while doing what you've done so far?
Is the monitor cable compatable with the 7600GT?
What's the model numbers of both the monitor and the 7600GT?
(7600GT should start like PV-T73)
Using the supplied monitor cable and or any adapter on the cable?

Again, thanks for all your help!
wardog,
Yes, I have tried both DVI-outs on the card.
No, not a thing has appeared on the motherboard.
Not sure what you mean by the monitor being cable compatible...
The monitor is a Dell 1704FPT.
The 7600GT is PV-T73G-UDE3.
Using the Dell-supplied cable(s). I have tried both DVI ports, both with and without the supplied DVI to VGA converter.
=======================
One thing I just noticed. The motherboard has a built-in speaker. I thought I was not hearing anything because my case had no speaker. Even with the RAM taken out, I am not hearing any POST codes from the motherboard. Fans and HD are still spinning up. |

Ok, for starters let's make sure the monitor is correctly working as it should.
Follow, to the letter, the "Self-Test Feature Check (STFC)" described HERE.
Does the monitor pass its self-test? |

| Also, try normal operation w/o having the monitors USB hub connected. |

Aren't there different flavors of DVI? I remember some discussion of problems with a GeForce 6150 based board because the wrong type of cable was used.
Maybe this will help. I imagine you'll have to find out what the monitor supports.
