Just wondering if anyone has a link to a good guide to demystify the whole Athlon 64 issue with dividers and memory speed.
I just ordered parts for my new system, and although I'm really not concerned about overclocking, I do want to get the most out of my memory.
I got a Brisbane 4200 which runs at 2200 Mhz, and I got 4GB of 800 Mhz memory.
I think by default that my memory is going to run at 367x2=734.
It might be worth it to leave it at default speed if that let's me lower my latency, but that's what I want to find out.
thanks in advance.. and I know the system isn't fast but at this point I just needed a new system with loads of ram to start learning Vista, Linux, etc.. |

Not 100% related but I think its worth a try. For a long time folks advised against using the NTune application as it could screw up your PC. However that was some time ago and I hadnt heard much about it for a while. Anyway now that its required to OC graphics cards I installed it to see how it had changed.
I decided not to use the OC feature for the graphics and instead took a gamble and tried the OC/tune up feature.
I ran the quick tune and it suggested a few changes. I then ran the 3 hour one and it ran through a small benchmark over and over for the first 45 mins slowly adjusting the ram settings and timings. After that it just ran the test over and over with the same settings, I guess to test stability. Once it had been running for about 2.5hrs I took a note of the settings it had reached and then set those in the BIOS. I then removed the nTune app.
Did this before Xmas and the PC has been 100% stable since.
Whilst it did adjust some of the ram timings, I have to say I've given up on that aspect of OC'ing in terms of tweaking the timings down as tight as possible. I just set the ram speeds to AUTO and just go for the plain and simple overclock. I might even loosen them to get another 5hz on the ram OC. To be honest tweaking the timings to the max isnt worth the payback in terms of time and effort these days. You might get an extra frame per second to take you from 105 to 106fps whoopee.
