Like the title says.
I can't get Grid to stop crashing. I've was originally running this machine dual booted with Ubuntu. After the game kept crashing, I reformatted and now I'm just running XP. After the fresh install of everything, the game continues to crash. Sometimes it happens 30 seconds into it, sometimes 5 minutes, but generally speaking it happens very quickly.
I've backed my OC down, and the machine is prime, and Orthos stable. I ran both tests for 24 hours at a time, and had zero errors or failures.
There are two patches out for the game, so just for [Brad Pitt] and giggles, I deleted the game and reinstalled. I tried patching right up to the newest patch, v1.2 and the game crashed. So I deleted it, reinstalled, and then patched to the older patch, v 1.1 and it's still crashing. I also ran the game with no patches and...you guessed it....still crashing. I'm using the newest drivers for my 8800 (175.19), and my board (A8N-SLI Premium) has all the newest drivers.
I also thought that maybe for some strange reason it would have something to do with my G15, or G5's drivers. I've run the game with both installed, and not installed, and it still crashes. I am using the wired Xbox 360 controller, and I've tried using just the generic driver, and the XBCD drivers. Still crashing.
Any suggestions? The game looks great, and is a lot of fun. I just want to play without crashes.

I just bought this game and had a bit of an ordeal getting it to run on Vista 64. What finally fixed it for me was adding a flag to my desktop shortcut.
Right-click your desktop shortcut> Properties and in the Target field try adding "novirtual" so it looks like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Codemasters\GRID\GRID.exe" -novirtual
Apparently this fixes a lot of problems for some reason.
It is a lot of fun--especially drifting! Just a little buggy. |

This is kind of strange, but prior to reading your response I was able to get the game to run for an hour and a half straight without a crash.
I upped my OC. I was running at 2.65 @ 1.325. I bumped it up to 2.7, and 1.4v (tried different voltages, but 1.4 found to be stable for the game.), and it seems to be running good. No idea why...and I'm sure that I'll end up with some issues sooner or later again.
When I do, I'll give your suggestion a shot.
