Asus Update Registry Error

Postby InternetOwl » Thu Jul 07, 2005 7:43 pm

I was hoping someone here could help me with this problem. I own an ASUS AN8X Deluxe revision 1.04 motherboard and use the newest 1008 bios available for it. I have encountered an error trying to use the Asus Update program with my board. I have used this program for the whole time I have had the board, updating the version of it as Asus released new ones. Recently when I tried to update my version of Asus Update to 60601 from my previous version under Windows XP Home SP2 I encountered an error preventing me from installing it to my system. And when I try to re-install my older version the same error prevented me from doing so saying there is no Asus motherboard installed. As of now I cannot install any version of this program to my machine as the same error stops me from doing so. This is the error I get:

ASUS BIOS INFO.DLL

Unable to create NT driver service for BS_DEF.DLL

I realize (or think) this is a system registry error relating to motherboard DMI informations. My question is is there a way to fix this without doing a clean install of WinXP to reset the registry.

Thanks in advance.

That error message may be because of not having administrator rights. Make sure that you're logged in an account with administrator rights!!!

Okay then, thanks for the replies guys. I guess I'll be waiting for a new bios from Asus. Yah, that shouldn't take too long.

Anyway, thanks. :)

BS_DEF.dll After having this same issue I found that the Creative Audigy 2 newest drivers or the XFi drivers cause this. and you can't even install Asus update utility it says it's not a Asus product.

Same.

This is an old and well-known conflict between ASUS update and the Creative Drivers. It has been around for a long time with no solution in sight.

I know this is not what you asked but...why even bother with ASUS update? Doing a BIOS flash from within Windows is the scariest thing I can think of doing with my computer.

In my case I tried to install it (and got the same exact error as you) simply to play with the BIOS logo and make my own... no big loss or big deal...I'll live with the default logo screen.

8-O

Okies...

1. Go to Google
2. Search BS_DEF.DLL or "asus update"
3. follow the links

It's a problem with the A8N-SLI, A8R-MVP, A8N32-SLI, A7N8X-DX... in short, it's a problem with ASUS Update and Creative Drivers.

Here's just another recent thread about it from others who have confirmed this. And PCPer is not "know where": http://forums.pcper.com/showthread.php?t=413232

I'm not a genius. I'm just not too lazy to do my own searches. So when it happened to me a couple of months back, I searched. Amazing how much you too will know once you learn to search.

PS... Just searched myself again--just for the sheer fun of searching--and guess what? It seems someone has come-up with a work-around. Apparently Logitech Itouch 2.22 also won't install with the latest Creative Driver. So Logitech tech support told someone to try this:

change HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node
to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\aWow6432Node
and voila, it worked! No problems when installing asus update and logitech itouch.

After installation you can change it back to the old entry.

Read all about it here: http://www.planetamd64.com/index.php?showtopic=14241&st=20

Damn! I just realized you fooled me into doing all the work for you...you're pretty smart aren't you?
