Hi guys,
this post is to let you know that, as of today, I started my folding experience with you.
Some stats:

1) Working on p1584_A7pp2_298K_03 GROMACS core;
2) Frames completed 150/5000;
3) WU end at 08:57 Sun Mar 07

Just a simple question: I installed the GUI version, but I'd really like to use the console executable instead.
How can I manage the switching process without losing the job I'm currently doing?
Regards.

You may as well complete the unit then download the console client.
Welcome to folding :D

edit: I see you have an X2..........try the beta windows smp client :wink:

Welcome to the team! :D

As Vaio said, you would better finish your current unit and then fire another client, I don't know if you can safely transfer WUs between clients.

Configuring the console client is pretty straightforward, you just have to execute the client in a DOS window, reply to some settings questions and it works without you noticing after that. I recomend setting the client as a service.

As you have a X2, if you want to take the most out of your processor, you have to either have two instances of the program running, each on its own folder and with a different ID (one of the initial settings, just have to set a different number for each) or use the experimental SMP client. I'll try it as well. :sweet:

Hello Tabajara,
I installed the experimental SMP client, but I'm experiencing some issues.
First of all, if I close the fah executable, the client is not running (I notice the CPU usage drops down).
Second, when the client is actually running, it keeps the CPU usage to 100%, while the GUI version had a percentage of utilization of 76.
I guess this beta client is not optmized at all.
Or am I doing something wrong?
Regards.

Update: do you know how can I uninstall this SMP experimental client? The FAQ is not very specific regarding this topic.

Just run it minimized...........if you must uninstall just deleting the folder should suffice.
Oh, just looked..........it is also in add/remove programs so pull it from there.

whether my SMP client is running or not, MPIexec is using ~23%. We had a few brownouts this morning, and it keeps rejecting the checkpoints. I swear, if I lose another one at 70%, it's back to the basics.
