Drive failure in mirrored NVRAID #1 array

I have a Raid #1 array with two WD5000YS drives running Windows XP. I also have another similar free drive. This setup has been working and stable for ~2 years

The other day one of the RAID drives failed and the XP froze. Upon restart the NVRAID screen indicated the RAID array was unhealthy. It then went into the boot order screen and I switched to the other drive that was still working. Windows XP booted to the blue login screen but the login/shutdown icons were missing and I can’t log in.

Since this is a mirrored RAID #1 array is NVRAID awaiting another replacement drive before it boots normally or is something else wrong?
