Howdy ppl.

I have recently put together a gaming rig...
XFX 7900GT, 2GB of crucial ballistix ddr500, opteron 148 capable of 3GHz.

It all works, great, but I have several issues:

1. Cold boot problem. When I try to start the PC when it's cold, it will bluescreen immidiately as it starts to load windows XP. After several restart's (blue screen every time) it eventually starts up. reducing memory or cpu speeds does not make the problem go away.

2. Aswell I seem to have this sound issue. Upon playing any AC3 content I get massive, very loud 'pink noise' comming through the speakers, and I need to restart PC in order to get it back to normall.

Anybody came across those problems before ?

Cheers,

Mops.

I'll try that, but i'm already on 1.57 i think... I do have watercooling and stuff and cpu temps are low (just over 40 deg C while running prime), but i'm not too happy about going any further with voltage.... 1.6 maybe... thats all i'm prepared to run on daily basis...

I suppose u use latest bios and drivers? Have u disabled cool&quite ? Have u checked whether the problem exist when u run components @ default speed?

P.S. I have heard something about compatibility issues with DFI and enermax PSUs. check it out.

Thanks for iinput.
I traced the problem to faulty memory. I just put back my old GEIL 2x256 and it works like a charm. Now I just need my 2x1GB crucial ballistix tracer pc4000 replaced.... I'll find out how good Crucial's "lifetime warranty" is....

well, the fact that your rig worked with 2x256 dimms isnt proof that your 2x1GB sticks are faulty. Several things could be happening.

1) Maybe there is a DFI - Crucial incompatibility. (try latest bios)
2) 2x256 is a lot easier to stable overclock than 2x1GB (try to lower your oc)
3) try put your crucial sticks to another rig so you can be 100% that it is a crucial issue and not something else.

I wish u the best of luck If finaly you decide to RMA Smile

hm....
well my crucial stick. initially they worked great , i had them humming along at relaxed timings at 265MHz @ 2.8V, then after about a month they kinda became unstable, so i bumped to 2.9 and that fixed the problem, then a week after that unstable again, so dropped speed few mhz, that fixed the problem, then eventually i had to drop the sepped even further, and after some more time they would need 2.8V to run @200mhz (they are rated for DDR500), then they wouldnt even post at ANY speed if the voltage was any lower thatr 2.8V, they could run at 200mhz @ 3.0V... timing were seriously relaxed, like 3-4-4-12 they they wouldnt even run at that speed.... now they will post but windows is unstable at any speed. i did not try any more than 3.0V.

i got 0406 bios...

i tried in abother ultra-d board - same thing is happening....
