In the last 4 days some settings in my BIOS have changed upon booting. First, the CPU internal Cache was disabled...OMG! That was no fun at all; luckily it only took me about 40 min and countless reboots to figure out what it was. Next, USB support was disabled …mouse and keyboard are usb. Pretty difficult to do ANYTHING like that.
So I am thinking one of three problems:
1) Mobo battery.
2) Day prior to first mishap I installed NVIDIA System Tools. This includes access to some BIOS setting through OS.
3) Malware.
Any thoughts?

I remember this year on of my customers PC had such issue and replacing the battery didn't fix it. What I did was complete clean installation - I don't know if it was any tool or malware, but I suspect nVidia System Tools. |

Thanks for the reply tjwasiak. I was thinking the same thing. I know if the time resets to change the battery but not one glitch with the time, only random BIOS settings.
I am running licensed version of Threatfire, Windows Defender and AVG free as well as a licensed Prevx CSI scan about every week. As many legit programs give me a false positive I cant imagine Malware but you never know.
Sometimes the NV system tools will hang though maybe it gets screwy when it doesn't close correctly? Did you try uninstalling it on your clients PC? Did help? |

No I didn't as I was supposed to do a fast repair, so I decided that if it is anything software connected I will just reinstall everything from scratch. I also advised the user (who was thinking of himself as a computer specialist BTW) not to use toys he don't need nor know how they works and what they are supposed to do...
I don't understand people tweaking computers at work and complaining that they are unstable |
