Big problem with Abit NF7

Postby SvovelSyre » Fri Jun 27, 2003 1:48 pm

I just installed my new motherboard, ABIT NF7. The problem is, I cannot get my PC to boot properly. That is, it boots, all fans start, it displays my CPU speed, it checks RAM, decides that RAM is OK. After that, it displays this: "Memory Frequence for DDR200". After that, nothing happens, no IDE/UDMA-units are listed, and the computer does not proceed to loading OS or anything, it just "freezes". I am using one 256 MB DDR PC2700 MB RAM from Twinmos. But RAM is not the problem, as I have tested with another RAM module that I know works. I cannot get into the BIOS by pressing DEL either, it seems like the computer just freezes, but fans continue running. Please help me, I am desperate, what can be wrong, and how can it be fixed?

Does it go through the memory check? Mine was freezing during the memory check and it turned out to be a corrupted BIOS. Had to get a chip from ExcaliberPC and do the hot swap to fix it.

Well, the PC does 3 things before it stops.

CPU (Athlon 1100 MHz)
256 MB RAM OK

Then I get the DDR200-message.

I am not able to get into the BIOS, no matter how rapidly I press DEL after starting the computer.

I was sometimes able to get into the BIOS by pressing ESC to skip the memory checking, not sure if it'll help in your situation or not. If you can bypass it this way, you might be able to get to a DOS prompt and reflash your BIOS too. I take it you've cleared the CMOS eh?

Usually I find that to be overclocked memory... so perhaps your FSB jumper is on the wrong setting.

Double check your IDE and Floppy cables to make sure they are not backwards. :D

1. disconnect all case fans you have connected
2. unplug ur ide devices and see if it boots
3. clear cmos and boot (or hold insert and boot (forced to foot at 100fsb))

Good advice which I'll surely note down. I really want to buy this board, but I must say about 80% of what I've read so far is extremely discouraging.

The reviews have said version 2.0 has fixed the corrupted BIOS problem. Atleast one redeeming factor about the board.
