Free version not yet updated.

Registered users need to upgrade their license, but obviously dont need to pay for it (the web sites a little confusing, so I felt like adding that.)

Well, I tried it. The UI update is pretty nice. But the firewall doesn't work at all on many systems (which they say during the install, and it just crashed on mine.)

So I uninstalled it.

Oh yeah, the scanning speed seems improved too, on my box, but I'm not going to make a comparison. :p

For someone who's never encountered a virus, you seem awfully keen on trying out beta versions of antivirus programs Laughing

Heck I almost never encounter a .NET 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5 app, and I have those...

Sometimes I even install Java, and I just as rarely need that.

I have a subscription to AVG, so I was curious. I had hoped the firewall would work, as that's part of my subscription, but guess not.

AVG releases second beta edition of AVG 8.0

New version of leading security suite offers extended protection and greater usability

Brno, January 16th, 2008 – GRISOFT, developer of the AVG family of security software products, today released the second beta edition of AVG 8.O for Windows for public testing. AVG 8.0 offers a completely new multi-threaded scanning engine that combines anti-virus and anti-spyware while retaining the product’s signature small footprint and scanning efficiency. Additional protection is provided in the form of safe searching and safe surfing protection acquired through the recent purchase of Exploit Prevention Labs, rootkit detection, basic security for MSN and ICQ instant messaging, and detection of malware-infected files on websites. Windows users interested in participating in this public beta can register and download the software at http://beta.avg.com.

The bold part is my edit, but hey it's the interesting part. Smile

Geez it almost looked like I was forced to upgrade to Internet Security, but you can definately keep your current edition (I only have AVG plus Firewall.)

Sweet.
