I don't foresee either of them owning a US company

Apparently a few reviewers received 6850's with 1120 shaders enabled... #-o

One major issue with the sample I received was that it came with 1120 shaders enabled. The HD 6850 specification requires 960 shaders. Unfortunately neither HIS, nor AMD could provide help with getting the board fixed so I had to reconfigure the shaders on my own. This review shows the correct performance numbers you should expect from a 960 shader HD 6850. If you see other HD 6850 reviews on the web that show surprisingly high performance, please ask the reviewer to check fillrate or using GPU-Z. I know of one other site who received a Sapphire HD 6850 with 1120 shaders enabled, so the problem might be more widespread.

I wonder if the 1120 shaders can be enabled with a simple BIOS hack - that would make these 6850s the ones with best cost/performance without a doubt :)

More 6970 slides (NDA up today apparently) :-

http://futuremark.yougamers.com/forum/s ... stcount=24

They've got another new tessellator then in this one, at worst 2x and at best 3x the performance of 5870 it seems...

VLIW4 shaders instead of VLIW5 (4+1), New AA mode 'EQAA' (similar to nV's CSAA), kind of odd that the 68xx's are on older tech, but hey.

More 6970 info...

We got some official data about AMD's Radeon HD 6970 card codenamed Cayman XT. The card runs at 880MHz and the card has the memory that runs at quite impressive 5.5GBps. The memory of choice is GDDR5 in 256-bit flavour and the card has 2GB of it.

The card has 96 texture units, as well as 24 SIMD and 1536 ALU streaming processors. It has 32 ROPs and 128 Z stencils.

Cayman Radeon HD 6970 uses VLIW4 Shader Architecture something that Bobo explain in details here. We can confirm this story today.

Could also run a bit 'hot'...

Overall the best case scenario looks to be quite hot and much more than people are expecting, us included.

More HD 6870 rumours, now it's only as fast as a GTX 570... :-s

I do not have the slighest idea where you came up with this answer ????? Eveybody that received their cards (Reviewers and Extreme Overclockers) have the final working cards with final Bios NOT betas , the same that its already shipping to e-tailers and re-tailers. There has never been a low-speed 6970xt and a fast 6970xt
Im deep in the industry and the Reviewers and Guys that got the cards for Reviews and testing and breaking World Records under Liquid Nitrogen are very dissapointed in the numbers , even overclocked , volt moded to hell and back it will never catch up with the 580GTX that its the thruth and have been done , the 6970XT volt mods are already floating around , well this will be my last words in here , the HD6970-XT will be up and against the 570GTX , the trade blows in the benchmarks. HD5970 will remain the fastest card on the planet. Wait a few days and you will see for yourselfs , most of you know my background in the industry and for that i cannot say more , AMD wants tight lips because 6970XT will be slower than 580GTX thats all.
