Activision has announced some earth-shattering news: the gaming giant would be merging with Vivendi Games to form one monolithic gaming company called Activision Blizzard. The deal, worth almost $20 billion, will see Activision CEO Bobby Kotick keep his place as CEO, while Vivendi's Bruce Hack will become the Chief Corporate Officer of the combined company. After all the stock shuffling, Vivendi will own approximately 68 percent of the new company.

Every so often, two industry heavyweights decide to stop competing with each other and merge into a single entity. Yesterday, that very thing happened in the game industry with Activision and Vivendi Games. As Shacknews reports, the two companies have announced that they will merge their assets in a deal worth a whopping $18.9 billion.

Yeah that's just freaky. I wonder if it'll do any good, but it's good to see a merger that has no relation whatsoever to EA.
